aaah, I think I may be quite stupid. How does it work? No one yet has been able to explain to me step by step... Im a new CEO, and would like to know how to make use of shares. Some people use it for voting, but then how good is it to have shares if you dont even have a stock market???

Shares basically control ownership of a corporation. Your corp, Nasheed, has 1000 shares. This is publicly available information.
If there are 1000 shares, you as a CEO need to ensure you own more than half of them (i.e. 501 shares) to make sure you will retain power.
If you own less than half the shares, there is always a possibility that one of the other share holders could start a vote to take over the CEO position. If a vote is started, all share holders will get a mail where they are asked to vote. They can then vote for or against the proposition stated in the vote mail.
Shares can also be used to distribute dividends. As a CEO you can choose to distribute part of the corp funds to the share holders and they will be distributed proportionately to how many shares people hold. I.e. someone who has 2 shares will get twice as much isk as someone with 1 share. This mechanism is used by many of the public corporations in EvE.
Keep asking if something is unclear.

Can anyone tell me where the Share info is?
All I can find is the Corp Attributes info (ie the publically available bit) - where's the info on who's got them and how to make more?
Regards

There is no info on who's got them. If you have some yourself, you'll see them under the 'Shares' tab in your wallet. To make more shares, you need to go into the 'Politics/Votes' section of the Corp administration window and start a vote. You need to be a director or CEO to be able to do this.

Can someone clarify this point. I know of people that own shares in a corporation they are members of, but they cannot initiate a takeover CEO vote in that corporation, or any other vote. Similarly, shareholders not in the corporation have no ability to initiate any kind of vote on those shares. Surely only people with the appropriate role (and thereby part of the corporation) have the ability to initiate a vote? So retaining 50%+1 of shares is only necessary if you have other people in the corporation who are also able to initiate a vote? Or have I missed something?

You need to be a member of the corporation, and you need to have shares in it. Then you can open the corp administration window and go to the 'Politics/Votes' tab. There will be a button there labeled 'Run for CEO'. Once you press the button, a vote is started. All share holders will get a mail and will be allowed to vote for or against it - even if they are not members of the corp in question. Majority rules.
I also understand that the old CEO gets all his corp access revoked while the vote is in progress.
