Well ladies and gents, i DLed the trial of this game, and instantly became addicted to it. So i decided to purchase a month's long account through paypal. So one day, i start up EVE, only to show under the server name... "checking status" . I think.. that's weird.. and try logging in anyways.. nope.. tells me to check the address to make sure its correct. I re-typed the server name (Tranquility)... nope... checked to see if I have the latest patch? yup.. still doesnt work.
Here are some other things Ive done: - deleted the cache folder. - re-installed the game in a new folder directory, and patched it too. - turned off all background processes, disabled my firewall, and turned my anti-virus off. - pinged the EVE server manually, which goes through perfectly. - my PC is plugged straight into the wall, so no problems there. - plugged my Dad's pc into my connection, and it ran EVE perfectly. - brought my PC to a friend's house to try their connection, and it didnt work, so it is obviously something in my PC. - punched myself in the head, because i just purchased a product which i cant even use.
Someone, please help me before i rip my hair out.

Hey Homer
I've been having similar problems over the last couple of days. All i can get out off EVE is Checking Status. This only seems to happen after about 18:00 GMT, and i'm aso having similar disconnects from MSN. These stared when the EVE problems started.
I'm using a D-Link DSL-G624T if thats any help, and firewalls are set to allow EVE and Messenger.
I dunno if anyone can offer an help??? Thanks

hehe, me and a few others posted about just this problem as it started friday after shutdown.. i sent a petition to CCP to get help, but they havent replied, nor have any1 on this forum so far.. so just to let u know.. ur not alone with this problem.. but it dont seem to get fixed anytime soon... since its now day 3 and still no change, or even reply.. (maybe its just CCP thats having a weekend off) if u find a way (besides getting new comp) dont be shy to post it.. there are more players out here paying for a game we cant play

btw, have any1 tried formatting the hard-drive? since the problem is obviously originated from the computer, but re-installing client dont help, it could be a -ini file or registry file thats ben corrupted that dont get deleted/overwritten when client is uninstalled/installed

ok, ive done some research and this is my results =(
This is a repeating bug that has been arounds since BETA. not usre about the origin or solution yet, but its a client bug and may get fixed in a bug-patch.. its also possible to work around, but havent found out how, yet.
Its sad to se a game having a bug that unables paying customers to access paid services, unfixed since the BETA-release.. BETA periods is just for that reason.. to fix bugs that is totally unacceppted in a 'live' version that demans payment.. (it is like paying for a cell-phone operator, and the phone dont work... and they know it.. and still sells it.. that is.. or should be.. illegal!!)
perhaps CCP should start geting their prioritys straighten out.. mak new content and exploits low prio, and set bugs that scams ppl on RL money as no. 1
i saw a post from devs saying they are still days behind on their 'to-do'-list.. and here is a tip that any schoolboy above age of 10 can give u......
YOU HAVE TOO MUCH WORK AND NEVER SEEM TO CATCH UP?? HIRE MORE STAFF MEMBERS!!!! YOU CAN PAY THEM WITH THE MONEY YOU MAKE ON SELLING A PRODUCT THAT CANT BE ACCESSED BY THE COSTUMERS!
(CCP, please dont make me get offensive and act against boards rules in order to get some attention over here..)

First off, hello all, been posting on the same issue on another thread, we got to page 9 with no resolution. Seems to present in various ways, mine is the flavour that likes to ctd on 'acquiring bulk data' and reboots with 'connection lost'. Like everyone else I have deleted machonet, reinstalling, patching etc. I've also changed OS and hardware (XP Pro to Vista 64 Ultimate, ASUS A8n to ASUS A8n32 AMD 62 4000 to AMD X2 4800, new HDD's too cant remember name tho) Same problem, which was a little frustrating, i did spend a lot of money to fix that, honest, well it was an excuse to upgrade :)
I petitioned once, i was asked to run a program called pingplotter and test my link to the eve server for an hour, result was no packet loss and no pings above 50, boy was I suprised! Issue resolved itself after a dt so I cancelled the petition.
Its cropped up again, been ongoing for about a month now, pingplotter shows the same.
I've played about and if I run the exefile.exe instead of eve.exe (found in bin folder) it runs a log window, when eve fails on acquiring bulk data I can see a load of entries but I cant screengrab them for some reason. Anyone else getting this?

Alright...I've got the same problem...here's my actions leading up to the problem...:
I was entering a new system, and my computer shut itself down, as it normally does because it has a problem with over-heating. I shouted a few random colorful words and pressed the power button until the computer turned itself off. once that happened, I turn the computer back on. after the boot an everything, I pull up the EvE online exe file and try to log in. I notice that the server status is set to "Unknown", despite the fact that I knew it would fail, I put a bit of faith forward and entered my user name and password...to no avail...so I once more restarted my computer. after once more rebooting, I pulled up the EvE online login screen... the status still read "Unknown" ....I searched high and low until I came across Kalearne talking about the log with the exe in the bin file... I used it and tried logging in a few times....I got a message about some sort of exception...shrunk the window down and started typing here....and about the time that I was done typing about the first time the computer shut down, I noticed my status was now "Checking Status" ...
It's quite angering for this to happen...All I want is to get my stuff down to my alliances air-space...Oh well....if anyone finds anything out, lemme know...

lol, here is some interesting info: if u connect just as the server comes back from maintenance (yes, even tho i have no connection to tranquility, i still recieve by magic, the start-up counter) i can actually connect, but since i cant load the game instantly, the game frezes after authenticating.......................... so.. how/what/why/did my monkey program this application??? it is established that i have connection, just that my client auto-bypass the login conditions in the code and go directly to the 'else'/'false' term and therfore says i dont have connection, since the client havent run the 'check for host' function correctly.. now.. i could make a working client for login in Visual Basic... why cant CCP??? tho.. i guess its hard to fix bugs the arent aware of.. since im sure they havent read neither this post or my petition yet... soi guess thats me saying goodbye to EVE after only 2 months of playing... i guess im heading back to my old MMO where support had a 24 hours guaranteed response.. even if the bug cant be fixed for months.. atleast they would let u know...

If msn disconnects too, it should have nothing to do with the Eve server status or CCP network.
For sure your ISP will tell you that all is fine and say it's someone else's fault so they do not have to spend time investigating the issue...
Tell us about where around the world you are located (no need to tay something precise, just country/state) and your ISP, this may give some clues on which ISP is messing up if this is the case. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! well, im on day 5 of non-functional product payed for...... just as said here, my other MMO have no issues connecting.. i used PingPlotter and there is no breach in the connection to EVE server either.. i seriously doub this is connection-related issue, but rather a software bug. Ive finally gotten an answer from Support and are sending reports/info back and forth hoping this will get resolved. As soon as i get more info (or actually get it to work) i will post a notification in this thread, so that others can get the help hey need.

I too have been having this problem, with the same symptoms that were described by Kalearn. After I first DLed, I couldn't get past acquiring bulk data. Then, after deleting my cache, I was able to connect, but with disconnects and "connection lost" errors coming up every 3-10 minutes. Finally, two days ago, I was able to play for approximately 5 hours with no disconnects. Now, since yesterday, I have been stuck on acquiring bulk data data again. Just thought I'd add my two cents. I do really hope this gets resolved, as I have no doubt in my mind that I would buy time with this game if this were not an issue. Really superb game otherwise.

Ok devs, you need to address this problem now. I understand that you have other things to do, but we are having this problem that is disabling our ability to play. We are the only ones that have posted, there are probably many more who haven't. The point is that we are losing game time that we are paying for, and as paying customers, we expect the utmost from you. If you cannot fix it now, at least let us know that you are working on it.

As of last night, 11:00 PM EST, I was having no problems.
This morning, 8:00 AM EST, I can no longer connect. There is a message in the launcher regarding a known issue with startup.
Any information and ETA on a fix would be grand.

Just wasted 2 hours reinstalling everything for nothing. Still "checking status..." and "Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong."
I'm convinced the problem is not in my end. I guess I'm being forced to quit playing EVE. |

is windows firewall up> make sure that you have the ports opened and the correct file set for access. the windows firewall has issues allowing alot of things through it . and will cause problems with out telling you that it is blocking anything.

A worm? Do you have any more information on this? If it is indeed a worm than it should be possible to delete/fix with updated virus protection and scans. I would really like to avoid having to reinstall as I just barely finished spending a good week setting this system up.

Just thought I'd mention as well that this problem seems to be intermittent. I went a day or two where it worked fine, then three or four with the acquiring bulk data problem, then a day where it worked, and now it's off again. This sort of behavior doesn't really lend itself to a virus or worm, which would permanently mess it up, unless it was fixed in which case it would permanently work now.

Problem is about a trojan/worm. I had same problem "Checking Status...", found 2 trojans win32:maran, win32:lieanage-406. Reinstalled fresh copy of OS now Eve working fine. Those trojans are very malicious regarded to which i found some information on searches, they can download codes and break firewalls, they are copying themselves everytime to a startup program like mouse and graph drivers etc. dunno which program can stop their activity, very annoying bastards.

Hey DONT REFORMAT IT YOU FOOLS!!!!!!
I know how to sort it and I have.
1) Install and update Ad-Aware 2007 Free
2) Install and update Spybot - Search & Destroy
3) Install CleanUp!
4) Start Computer in Safe Mode
5) Run a scan with Spybot - search and destroy
6) Run a scan with Ad-Aware 2007 free
7) Run CleanUp! To delete Temp files.
8) Right click my computer - Properties - System restore - turn off system restore (as Trojen may be in the restore files (as told by McAffe))
9) Restart Computer normally (It will prob ask for a Check Disk. Let it do this) Then Turn System Restor back on
All sorted Hope this helps
