While I realize as a pirate, that just about anything you do generates a large amount of local hostility, what is the definition of "smack"? Is it someone who just pops in at random and trolls, or is it someone who tosses in a joke or two at someone elses expense?
For example: Krystal Divine > weeee TheJacko > thought you would run....... Krystal Divine > Why do you think my ship's named weeee? :) Krystal Divine > Because it's fun to tease. TheJacko > tease? TheJacko > you mean you only kill when you blob? Krystal Divine > I killed you? No one ever tells me anything. :( TheJacko > i said TheJacko > you as in your corp TheJacko > thats why you ran Krystal Divine > I am my corp? O_o Since when? TheJacko > because you dont have more people behind you Krystal Divine > Maybe you're into having people behind you but I prefer in front O_o Krystal Divine > SIck. TheJacko > lmfao you people think your so funny TheJacko > just full of smack and no action Krystal Divine > You're the one laughing. Krystal Divine > And I'm not smacking. Krystal Divine > Simply responding. ^^ TheJacko > with smack TheJacko > bye noob Krystal Divine > Bye terd Krystal Divine > Does no one know the difference between starting smack and responding to smack anymore? Sheesh.
Is Wacko Jacko the smacker, or am I the smacker for responding? You decide!

Smack is the word used when you say anything in local other than "GF" or it's variations during the following situations:
-After a fight -before a fight -During a fight
Saying anything at all while being camped, or camping is also considered smack.
Also, talking in local if even one person is annoyed by what you say is considered smack. No, you don't have to know whether they are annoyed by you or not, if you speak, and it annoys someone, then it's smack.

"GF" Good Fight is probably the dumbest thing ever said. I consider a good fight a 1 minute long fight in which we had time to put in our player skills into work, not blowing up/being blown up in less than 10 seconds from the start. 10 seconds does not denote player skills, just a better setup/ship class than the other.
I usually swear at people who tell me good fight after they blow me up with a HAC, a recon jamming and nossing me plus interceptor versus my cruiser. Yes, i tanked a whole minute, but what an exploit that was.... I think I only used "good fight" once in my life and I believed some of my victims who told it to me because I did something they did not expect but apparently they liked when fighting me (or maybe just as an automatic thing they say after every fight, kinda like the obligatory butt patt after the football game ) Stories. |

I dont consider what you said smack.
It amuses me when people get annoyed that their intended targets dont roll over and play possum.
Funny too coming from thejacko, he's not exactly mr "fight em outnumbered" in the placid region

And to answer you're question, Smack is what you make of it. I've heard some people refer to me saying "bah this sucks" as smacktalk. Frankly I've given up, it's not my job to try to be an upstanding smack-free EVE-citizen to impress a playerbase which consists mostly of nerds.

i would define smack as malicious banter.
ma+li+cious
1. full of, characterized by, or showing malice; malevolent; spiteful: malicious gossip. 2. Law. vicious, wanton, or mischievous in motivation or purpose

Smack: Shooting off your mouth because you cant/wont use your guns. Trash talk: Using your wits to make your opponent forget his.
I can get a bit trash-talky sometimes, but I try to not be smacky in local, Druz'll get all grrr with me if I do __________________________________ Vale Heavy Industries "We produce many fine products!(Out of yours if neccessary.)" |

Oh, Jesus. I hate when people smack you about something like that.
You know the type:
"Oh... all you guys know how to do is dock up and run away!"
All while camping in 3 people with 16. Like being smart enough not to engage when there is no chance of winning is a character flaw, or personal failing.
Like the Jacko here, complaining that someone in a Stabber, didn't stick around to get ganked by his HAC.
My guess is though (again with the double standards) if someone tried to engage his HAC, say with a couple command ships, he'd be running away, and probably smacking about how the person trying to engage him needed command ships to fight his HAC.

I've heard that statement so many times, but I still don't get it. It seems backwards to me... do they think that people dock up, then get out of their ships and run screaming down station hallways?

Not to continue the smack here, but do you have any sort of mental disfunction? I'm absolutely sure that were you in a Stabber and I in a Demios, you would have stayed to get ganked.
Or maybe you wouldn't have. In fact, you probably would have moved along if you had anything bigger than Krystal's cruiser on your scanner.

So you admit smacking members of the Black Fleet for doing something you'd do yourself. Hmmm... at least you are up front about your double standards, but I think in concding my point, you lose any ground upon which to stand while pontificating about us.

why do i everyone knows i smack :) thats why i play this game xD but be honest... people in your corp smack alot more than me i have seen it alot of the time just passing through and your guys are having a smack fest in local.
and my point was to be aimed at your corp there was hardly any smack from me just saying that your corp does not attack unless it has an extra couple of people with it :)

Actually, like the time in question here, we only "smack" when smacked. Meaning, we don't say anything, and are usually respectful until someone says something like "I knew you'd run, all your corp does is run."
At this point, our corp benefits from having advanced smack talking trained to 5. ;-)

had a funny session the other day when we attacked a D2 gatecamp in EC. correction. i attacked 30 (yes... 30) pilots, which included around 8 battleships, some intys, a hac, some afs etc.
in a tech 1 maller
now in fairness i was the vanguard, we had 2 pilots (stil la 10-1 ratio) in system on way to the gate while i attempted to lock down and hold a CNR (target primary)
before my 2 mates got to the gate. they had jumped off into torrinos.
1. 10 month old pilot "broke up" a 30 man gatecamp in a t1 cruiser of ultimate cheapness.
and yes, our publicly stated amazement at this wass considered smack./ but was too damned funny to hold in.

tbh i am i huge hater of smack but love having a banter with ppl after a fight even if they are enemies. it's sad when some ppl can't have a laugh without crying smack but at the same time it's so common that you tend to assume.
smack in my opinion is being negative towards someone or their corp without a comedic tone to it. generally u can tell how the mean a comment. if they mean it to make u laugh then it's all good imo.

weel tbh in most fleet engaments ive seen unless it was a pretty decent fight, like 15 v 15 and lated more then half an hour then GF is fine but usualy you never see it if it was more of a quick gank etc etc..
for me personally i dont use it unless its a fight that when both sides want to fight and that if even its likly you will die in like 10 seconds but was a very close fight where it was even sides all the way through to only win by a few ships left... Hypnotic Pelvic Thrusting Level 5 |
