Hello, i am a SWG refugee that left after the NGE launched. I played WoW for a year and got burned out on it. I miss the SCI-FI Genre games and giving EVE a try. I played on the Tarquinas Server on SWG, member of Skull and Bones, and was a Bounty Hunter known as Narklaktu. I made a character in Eve with the same name so any ole Tarquinas vets want to say hi, give me a hollar.
I am interested in being a Bounty Hunter in Eve and i heard its really, really, really hard to be a successful BH. I like to join a BH corp if any exist or SWG refugee corp.
Thanks for reading my noob post,
Narklaktu

Well... being a Bounty Hunter, you could try but don't have your hopes to high on it.
There are other professions, miner, industrialist, cannonfodder for one of the bigger alliances. Well lots of things to do. EVE is a big game, lots of things to learn.
Start small, learn how things goes in EVE. --- It have always fallen to a few to sacrifice for the good of many |

Greetings from another SWG refugee.
Some things I have learned about EVE that you may find helpful:
EVE is a huge game in which you can do nearly anything if you have a plan and the patience to execute it.
EVE will not hold your hand, unlike WoW, EVE will not guide you from level 1 to 60, you are on your own here.
The EVE community is about the best there is, if you have questions or need advice, just ask. Ingame or on the forums you will likely get more help than you can use. This is not a bad thing.
Seek out the "EVE University" channel ingame, and consider joining their corp for at least awhile. You can learn a huge amount from these dedicated people.
I'm not the most knowledgable person around the EVE universe, but I will gladly help if I can. Contact Asinia Au anytime if you would like.
EVE is really like no other game out there right now and there is a lot to get used to. Take your time, be patient, be open minded, and you will likely find that you found a true gem the day you decided to give EVE a try.
And last, but not least, welcome to EVE!

I'm also a SWG refugee. Welcome!
As for bounty hunting, there certainly are some opportunities for that here. To start with, virtually every NPC pirate ("rat") has a "bounty" on its head, which you collect immediately when you destroy its ship. Most NPC combat missions involve fighting such things, or you can "rat" on your own in asteroid belts and whatnot.
In addition, many players have bounties on their heads. I don't know if you could make your living solely off such things. Also, piracy is another time-honored profession here -- and it also breeds anti-pirates, who hunt down pirates. I don't know if that qualifies as "bounty hunting," but you might look into piracy or pirate-hunting.

Bounty hunters are simply called mercenaries in EVE. Since the original bounty system allows for the criminal to collect own bounty, players just don't put any money on their heads and if they do the bounties never get high enough. However, receiving money from a third party for killing someone is a very viable way to make a living in EVE.

I am also a SWG refugee. This is a greta game in that you wont have the worry I had in SWG of not being able to produce anything that would sell since there is a working economy in this game. The main problem is being careful about the people you deal with since there is a lawless bunch in this game. Nevertheless welcome and you will do fine in this game as long as you are patient and careful. There are no limits as to what you can do in this game. Enjoy!

I too, would recommend Eve University for you. Check them out on the Corp Recruiting Forum. Or just convo Bruno Bonner or Vendette Ornay in game.
As far as Bounty Hunting, they have made it better, but like others have mentioned, it's not a viable solo occupation because very few people have a substatial bounty on their head. Unless you are talking about big boys in 0.0, who have (and will always have) much more saavyness, ISK, and better toys... the only bounties you'll collect will rarely be worth more than the loot they drop.
But PvP isn't something that you can do realistically, for months (especially solo... that's about as 'upper-level-uber' as I can imagine in this game). Joining a corp, learning how things work, and then being part of a blob of ships and ganking others will help, but even for that, there's alot to know, and alot of skilling to do.
But for those who do it, it requires alot of reading people, figuring out where the mark is, will be, and what he does. Alot of waiting and planning. And if the bounty is worth it, still a tough fight. Not saying this to deter you, just to make you realize if you really wanna do it, it'll take you a while.
Oh, before I forget, Eve-U probably won't be too much help for you in terms of practicing stalking/ganking tactics. But if you are new, the getting down fundamentals ASAP is priceless.

Not a SWG refugee, but came from UO myself. If you're a veteran of MMO's, a lot of what you already know will transfer to EVE with it's pvp-oriented environment. Most MMO's follow a simple split-world ruleset where there are "safe" areas (no-pvp) and pvp zones. I'm guessing SWG isn't different. If you venture into low security areas, there are a few simple things...
1- Never take out what you can't afford to lose. 2- Always assume you're going to die when you go out. This will save you from outfitting your ship with expensive to replace gear. 3- Always expect pvp.
Nothing is more irritating than someone acting surprised when they lose a ship in a low security area. If you leave the protective embrace of Concord, it becomes the Wild West. Considering you want to bounty hunt, you're gonna spend a considerable amount of time out in the badlands.
As far as bounty hunting, from waht I can see, it's not a viable solo career choice. That is for the individual bounties, of course. Eve is a corporate world, and there are plenty of "honorable" corporations that are willing to pay people to do their dirty work. Be it killing a certain pirate that is interfering with their mining operations, or taking action against an entire pirate corp for money, there is profit to be made in the mercenery end of EVE. However, bear in mind that the mercenery racket is a conscious free one. Your loyalty belongs to the highest bidder. Your corp could very well go after some pirates, and the next week be paid by those pirates to attack the miners you worked for last week. Your wallet knows no shame.... and bounties work both ways.
Another thing to remember is to do your research. 0.0 pirates travel in packs. You'll msot liekly be operating in "low-sec" (.4 - .2) which is like the ghetto of eve. Miners want to take the ore, pirates want to take the miners. There's a lot of opportunity here for the right people.
My advice is: Find a corp (or a group of like-minded people and start a corp) that shares your interest, and run with it. One solo ship is not going to strike fear in the hearts of many people. A group of people who will hunt players to get paid will bring in some business. Learn the ropes, get some folks together, and build a name for completing your tasks for the money, and you can, indeed, start hunting your fellow players for profits.
