As I pointed some months ago:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6270652#post6270652
Quote:We'll have to wait until returning 3-monthers stop loggin in now that the fun is moving to low and null only, and then let their subscriptions lapse around March
This year 2016 February has peaked 6,000 peak-concurrent-players below 2015's peak in January, and since February is traditionally the peak month of the year, 2016 hasn't started on a good footing in terms of server population.
This, bear in mind, despite the stimulus being applied to the game, from SP trading to PvE events like Blood Harvest, Frostline or The Hunt.
People is quitting the game faster than they are replaced. Has been like this for many years. And nothing in the works will stop it.
PvE is killing EVE one player at a time. I've been saying this since Incarna, whose 5th anniversary will be next June. All efforts made to keep PvP alive are wasted when EVE loses 2 PvErs for each PvPr retained.
I don't know where's the point of no return, when population becomes too low to be sustainable. At 6,000 PCU per year, probably will take several years more to reach it, unless there's some kind of landslide.
But so far, with PCU data in hand, EVE is not going anywhere good.
All he usal voices from the old thread are welcome here. I will be glad to listen to your excuses to explain why we are 6,000 PCU below last year, which was 12,000 PCU below 2014...

The purpose of the OP is to point out, yet again, that CCP needs to improve the game for the PVE-centric player if they wish the game to stop shrinking. Apparently there has not been sufficient evidence presented to CCP to get them to do this task, so the OP is attempting to give them even more, so they will in fact to the work.

The OP is correct in bringing out this issue. Even for me I have NOT logged in for the last few days and for what? Skill que checking is all I do anymore. The way things are going is that if CCP doesn't do something in the new future that would make my keeping two accounts active, then it's lights out again for good. |

I don-¦t think reposting what's basically the same 'doom and gloom' messege will achieve much. Perhaps make some suggestions to the sort of content that could change stuff.
I would like to know how you can be sure that it's PVE (I assume you want 'more') that's driving away people. During the period you mention most changes have actually been 'nerfs' to different forms of non-consensual PvP so if anything it seems to be nerfs to PvP that's driving people away. |

Is it time again?
Personally I think changes to combat PvE to attract new players is a futile attempt, you would just sink dev power into a pointless race between new scripted stuff and player boredom. Industry got an overhaul already, exploration is mostly fine, mining is as relaxing and boring as it should be, but PI deserves some attention. What players really keep with EvE is the player generated content and the communities. CCP should focus on lowering the entry hurdles here. FW for example is broken because of the too harsh penalties to the EvE live, making it a niche today. Wardecs in highsec are broken, etc.
What concerns me right now, is that CCP certainly works on small improvements, but also is about to introduce new big obstacles for participation with the "PvP tax" (clone jumping fee) and obscene market fees, only helping the richest and biggest at the average players expense.

I didn-¦t even consider this. If Op is talking about characters and not players it's very possible that the decline we see is from people consolidating alts. |

Didn't I just read somewhere that CCP made a profit last year? Is that true or did I make that up? I think it's true.. anyway...
if it is true, wouldn't that fact ALONE refute this garbage argument that average PCU somehow equates to quality gaming business?
If CCP is a business (she is, right?) and EVE is the product - and the business makes a profit (goal of business) - then doesn't that suggest that CCP = a quality gaming business?
while it is true that CCP may not be making money (goal of business) in the manner that you (customer of business) might prefer, it remains true that they are 'succeeding'.

A successful gaming business is a sustainable one. The downward trend in subs is obviously unsustainable and worrying for CCP. I too think that PvE needs some work but to be honest, a lot of areas of eve could do with some.
GÇótackle mechanics (scram+web effectively compulsory) GÇóno reason to use big slow subcaps GÇóincome streams are all out of balance GÇówardecs are broken GÇófleet logi is OP / boring GÇócorps also need work GÇósov is also in a state where many are unhappy
Basically a lot of mechanics are less than good, a vision of what still needs to be fixed is needed. Even after the massive re-code post incarna there are still many broken systems in the game that have not been looked at by CCP.
A case for more AoE in EvE

Guess what, PVE will never be fun or great in this game. The reason for this is the game mechanics. Hitting 3 buttons and then waiting for rats to die is not fun gameplay. The only way to make PVE remotely fun is to make the game "twitch based". And that is not going to happen.
My suggestion is to go play a PVE centric game with game mechanics that support it. EVE will never have it.
