First off, I am not making any accusations, proposing any theories, hypotheses, rumors, guesses, assumptions, inferences, proposals or flamebait. This has nothing to do with my alliance or corp, or any in-game friends.
With recent news of CCP employees giving an unfair advantage to in-game corporations/alliances, and revealing their true identity, against the rules, to non-employee players, a great many questions were brought up. The vast majority of these were answered by CCP, and I must applaude all of the devs that have been handling the situation very eligantly.
There is one thing that I have been pondering over the past few days. We all know that devs and most all employees have in-game characters that they play on a daily basis. This is the way it should be, they love this game just as much as we do, and thus should enjoy it. There have been very few problems in the past involving employees and unscrupulous acts (2, that I know of, correct me if I'm wrong). Virtually all of them abide by the rules and keep thier identity hidden from their corp mates.
The next thing to consider is that many of them have been playing since beta, so they have very highly skilled characters. Also, it stands to assume that many may be in high positions of power in the larger and more influencial alliances. Between political power, monetary power, and being able to fly the most advanced ships in the game (being Capital ships, which, in 0.0 translates into power), a dev can be an essential asset to any corporation, even if the true identity is unseen.
But there is one more thing that is not often judged: the relationships between the individual employees in real life. I cannot say for sure, but I believe that CCP does not forbid employees to discuss their in-game life amongst each other in the office. That being said, is it not unlikely to think that many in-game politics on the alliance level are played out (or planned out?) in real life, among real life friends/co-workers? Is it not unlikely that if one dev's alliance is under attack by a more powerful foe, that he can ask another employee to bring in his alliance for a helping hand? Or that two friends that are in positions to influence alliance decisions may spark a war, end a battle, or push a conflict in a certain direction?
I am not saying that this happens, simply that it is possible. I have never heard of an instance where this ocurred. So how much goes on behind the scenes that we don't know about? How much is permitted? I'm sure it is nothing that needs to be worried about, but it is an element of the game that is not something that can disappear. It has nothing to do with cheating, unless there are more rules I do not know about. But between the myriad of politics, the economy, and basic player relations, it is something to discuss. Constructively.

so your saying that if guy "a" is the leader of alliance "A" and knows guy "b" who is the leader of alliance "B" in RL, and one day they go out, have a beer or two, or ten, and decide: lets be friends and kick everyone's arse... then its fully ok, unless the said guys are both devs, in which case its omgwtfhaxbobetc?

If the DEV's can - they will use their knowledge of eve for their personal benefit. And they can.
More or less, on a personal preference.
And there is nothing you can do about it. There are unlimited possibilities if you have access to tools, code, and game database itself.
All in all: less you know - better you sleep.
P.S. Im a MMORG game developer myself.

Whoooa buddy! Maybe you should go back and reread my post. And this time pay attention to the part where I say it wouldn't be cheating.

Dev's or not is irrelevant, Alot of things is going on behind the scenes that the ordinary player never will know about. EVE is a single sharded game, has always had a very tight community and was a very small world in the beginning, so many older players and alliance leaders has had time to develop a RL relation to eachother.
The things you described happens all the time. Dev's or not, whats the diffrence?

The real world has a very real old boys network and societies of people who work together for various goals. Why would EVE be any different? I'd be more curious to know if anyone has ever tried to setup a secret society a-la the Masons or Illuminati inside of EVE that had the specific goal of trying to effect things unseen. ---

And what we can do about it? Cancel accounts? I don't think that will happen, unless CCP really screw up. Like start banning people right & left to hide stuff. Or start taking systems and blowing fleets using the ebil dev powers. Most people will still like eve even if nothing changes.
And for now....for now we just do some "pew pew" to clarify our tastes. ;)

The sad part is that I have been defending Bob against allegations of "Dev Power" since the GNW. I fought against them as part of PA and flew with them as part of Xelas and 20th Legion. I always assumed their success was due to their professionalism and dedication to their Alliance.
Throughout this Bob always maintained that no "Devs" were in Bob. It was always "Put Up or STFU"..Now it has been shown that the allegations were true all along. I may have missed it but I havent seen any posts from those in Bob that denied that "Devs" were involved explaining their feelings now that they were proven wrong.
No matter what Bob manages to achieve in Eve, there will always be the suspicion that it wasnt due to honest endeavour. They will leave behind them a tainted legacy.
