Isn't it supposed to be near-impossible to scan out a mission runner in deadspace? If it is, I'm getting a bit tired of those who do the impossible "just to see if they can" and keep popping up in my low-sec missions saying, "Wow that's a cool CNR there! What are you doing? Can I have some loot? Aren't you glad I'm not an evil pirate, if I were you'd be losing that ship!!!11LOL What's so special about a CNR anyway? LOL Caldari ships make n00bs l33t, yo!"
Its enough to cause homicide, know what I mean?

I see both sides of this story because I have two different characters, a mission grinder and a pirate. I've seen how it's possible to find a mission runner in 5 min and you might be lucky enough to catch them if they just started.
On the other hand, as a mission runner I have hated this too, so I moved to .5 mission grinding. The lag is bad and the lps aren't as good, but I don't have to deal with the element of "I'm gonna pop your 300 mil fitted Raven."
Oh, and btw I love your name. I have some in the fridge right now. Texas beer ftw. "You don't have a soul, you are a soul. You have a body." C.S. Lewis. |

Earlier today I was probed out in a mission (thank god only in my looter and even that got away) more than 13 AU away from the nearest warpable. In fact it was 13 AU straight up from the system plane, so any probing spots between warpables were not closer either. I guess I must have been found by using 20 AU probes. That NEVER worked for me when I tried to probe deadspaces. I wonder if CCP has reduced the deadspace protection effect (wouldn't surprise me ) or if I was just very unlucky/the other guy very lucky. --------- There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Kestrel

All it takes is someone who has ran missions and dropped BM's at the various random locations. These BM's are then used later to probe people out. At least that's what I would do.

How ever it happens its annoying and getting far too frequent. Were it not for huge numbers of non-transferrable LP, I'd abandon the agent and move elsewhere.

Low sec. and 0.0 are what they are and should be treated as such.
Like it or not that's just the way it is.

Not sure if I agree with what you say or not since its a total non sequitur. But if the game mechanics are designed to protect players in deadspace from detection (and they are ), then its a bit disconcerting to find people appearing where they're not supposed to be. Especially if they're unfriendly.

Some people take scanning very very seriously. I've got systems with so many probing bookmarks that I can blanket everything within 20 AU of the sun with high powered short range probes.
Does it take *time* to set up a system that way? You betcha, oodles of it. But you know the old saying, "come play in my back yard, I know where the holes are." I *like* knowing who is in "my" system, where they are, and what they are doing. It's worth the effort.

It's been a while since I scanned for it but if you have drones out the protection isn't really there. These little buggers are beacons for scan probes. So you are pretty easy to find. I'd guess even 40 AU probes would pick them up in two scans at most.

You are unlucky enough to be in a system heavily populated by probe users. I've been running missions in low-sec since before Revelations, and since the scanning nerf I have been visited by someone ZERO times.
Two things have been said above that are important to note.
First, drones are your biggest weakness. If possible try not to deploy them until you are 25-30 km away from the warp-in beacon, and then keep an eye on the beacon.
Second, scanning down a mission runner quickly takes dedication, as evidenced by the poster who has an entire system peppered with bookmarks for that purpose. Most pirates won't expend the effort, unless...
You're in a CNR in low sec. As such, you've got a huge target on your backside. Fly a standard Raven with T2 gear. It's a bit slower, but you don't have "FIND ME!" painted on the side. _______________________________________________

Ok i dont mind that people can probe out mission runners since it keeps them on their feet. The part that i think is "unfair" or bias is that now the raven is an even better ship to run missions in. I am a Gallente pilot that of course runs missions in a Domi. The ability to EASILY find drones creates an unfair base from a few different angles. The first is disconnects since now i would have my T2 drones out and exposed to eveybody who wants to probe them out (this has happened to me). The second is the fact that with drones i am an easy target. It should be harder to probe out mission runners and there shoud be something for drones that are owned by a player.

Change the above to "...game mechanics are designed to give players some protection in deadspace..." and you're good.
Once you're outside a station, complete protection doesn't exist in LowSec, and never has. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

0.0 is usually safer once you get to know the locals, espically if they are anti-pirate and runs mission for money themselves. -------------------------------------------------- Yes I'm a forum alt, what you going to do about it? |

I'm going to repeat this for those that failed to read the post or missed it...
Low sec. and 0.0 are what they are and should be treated as such.

Seriously, that's it. You don't get special privileges for being in a mission in low sec. or 0.0 nor should you. You choose to be in the lawless space and you choose to be in a potentially threatening situation. It's your choice. Can't handle the possibility of someone probing you out? Tough ****...deal with it or stay out of low sec. or 0.0. Empire is there for people who don't want to be ganked in a mission. Not as lucrative you say? Well, you have to sacrifice something for that protection. You don't get to have both because you're a fun loving carebear running a mission.

Only noobs get probed in missions nowadays. There are 2 things you can do to get almost 100% invulnerable to probers. But i won't tell it here because i don't like this thread.

My corp mate was having no trouble at all probing out drone users last night.
Seriously, what is the point of CCP making it harder to find player ships when they do nothing about their drones ?

You can 100% avoid getting killed due to getting probed in missions (and everywhere else for that matter) already.
And I do not mean warping around constantly as soon as you have hostiles in the system in case they might use probes. Although that works, too.

Edited by: d026 on 13/02/2007 12:48:48 if you want to squeeze out more money of lvl 4's than eg 0.0 ratting you need to be very very quick. this only works in a faction fitted cnr. so there is no way anybody is going to lowsec for this additional 1k lp and risking his 5bil faction/officer fitted cnr. you need to be able to run the missions as quick as possible, pirates are a huge cut in your lp/h ratio thats why i moved back to 0.5 after the patch for my missionrunning pleasure:) in the end im doing more isk in 0.5 than in 0.3 where i have to constantly dock if a probe is in the air (vacuum):)

So you mean remaining docked whenever hostiles are in system? Because that IS the only way. All the other ways are simply pirate propaganda and do not work reliably, at least not when you are busy running a mission. --------- There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Kestrel

Dunno how it is supposed to be with deadspace and probing, but since you basically do not have chance with a mission-fitted ship against a pvp-fit, no matter that pirates usually show up at least 2-to-1, that is the reason i do not run missions in lowsec.
If i rat in lowsec/ 0.0, it is always in a pvp-fit and the isk/hour is usually better than in a mission.
WCS gimps your fighting abilty. Make your choice BEFORE you undock. Do not complain about a lost ship ever, if you fit for running and go fighting with it |

Sorry for being a noob regarding the whole probe topic, I've never used them nor have the skills to. I do however, run missions in .2 and .1 systems regularly. I have also been scanned out numerous times while flying my Domi. Luckily every time they found me I was in a deadspace mission and they warped in roughly 70k+ from my position giving me time to warp out.
What makes drone users so much easier to scan out then non-drone users? |

Part of the equation to detection probability is target sig radius / target sensor strength. And for drones, that ratio is rather poor.
A Dominix has 420 sig/ 22 sensor strength = 19 A HH2 has 50 sig /1 sensor strength = 50 An Ogre2 has 100 sig/ 1 sensor strength = 100
And you usually have 5 drones out and only one Battleship... So go figure.

I am running lv4 missions myself quite regulary and am usually so "busy" with them that I spend at least half the time doing them browsing through contracts or alt-tabbed.
