Performance problem When warping to a destination you always get some sort of lock up for awhile or lag at the point when you arrive. This most likely happens due to that all the textures of the area and the spawns hasn't yet loaded. The client needs to do all this work in one instant. So client lag is created. This is especially annoying at missions. Solution Why not let the client load these textures while warping to the mission? the ending location is already set.. this thing can be pre-cached smoothly long before you get there. I've played EVE with more than 3 diffrent top of the line PCs and still get this annoying lock up at warp in.
Something to think about When making this new feature make the code reusable cuz there are most likely alot of situations when this sort of preloading could come in handy.
Rambelings of an old Dev Tried to get the GMs to forward my petition concerning this issue to the Devs directly.. but I failed.. so here it is. Hope someone reads it.

Good idea.
They may as well do the same when docked at a station if they don't already (i.e. cache textures etc for the local system).

Duncan,
The problem is this. Mr. Hacker deliberately ditches his cache. He then warps somewhere and sees "tempest" texture being loaded, while 200AU out. He then informs his buddies that there is a tempest there.
If the client pre-cached textures, this would be avoidable. But it'd be SLOW on lower end systems.

The solution to the 'hacker' prblem is easy. Start preloading at 14 AU (the scanner range). There is plenty of time during the slow down at the end of the warp.

Maya, precashing would be better for lower end systems, gives them more time to load what they have to load anyway.
Yslath, yep.. that would get around a possible hacker issue. Preloading doesnt take long, and doesn't need to start untill 14 AU or so. Would be perfect.
