I only fly Amarr and can solo most L4s without trouble. There are a few that are very difficult and I either get help or turn them down. Missions against Blood Raiders and Sansha you should be able to solo quite safely. Gurista will be a bit tougher, mostly because of their jamming. Mercenaries are tough but doable except for the Right Hand of Zazzmataz mission which is very tough (and one of the three I tend to turn down. Missions against Angels are hard for two reasons. First, you have to tank all four damage types. Second, they have good resists against EM and Thermal which are our only two damage types.
I'm using a fully rigged Apoc and have about 14 million skillpoints. If you're under 10 million skillpoints and just barely into a battleship, you'll struggle a bit more. So long as you make sure you take care of any warp scrambling frigates immediately, you can always warp out and come back. I'd make sure your drone skills are good. Some people recommend using smartbombs instead to kill the close-in frigates but I prefer drones. Drones can really add dps to the bigger targets as well once they've taken care of the small threats. Also, drones allow you to add other damage types to your EM/Therm lasers. I usually run Tech 2 medium Caldari drones (Vespa IIs) which do Kinetic.
The three mission to avoid at first are: Right Hand of Zazzmataz, Worlds Collide, and Angel Extravaganza. The last two are harder because they have Angels.
Good luck and don't forget to insure. ---------- The right to do something doesn't make doing it right. |

My current Apoc setup:
High 7x Mega Beam Laser (best you can afford, I use modulated) 1x Drone Link Augmentor (lets my drones hit targets out to 65km)
Medium 2x Cap Recharger 1x Tracking Computer 1x Target Painter
Low 1x Large Armor Repairer 1x Med Armor Repairer 3x active hardeners (specific to mission) 1x Damage Control 1x Cap Relay
Rigs 1x Auxiliary Nano Pump (+15% repair) 2x Capacitor Control Circuit (+15% cap recharge each)
The double repper setup isn't used very often, but I've been trying Angel missions and wanted some safety. A more typical setup I've used is:
Low 1x Large Armor Repairer 4x active hardeners (specific to mission) 2x Cap Relay
But I don't need two cap relays anymore with the rigs, so I'd probably drop in a damage control instead. I use Infrared and Gamma crystals for the lasers. Infrared lets me hit out to my maximum targeting range (about 80km) and Gamma crystals can hit harder out to about 45km. I run five medium drones, keeping seven in the hold just in case. I prefer Vespa IIs which do Kinetic damage since that helps a lot against rats that have good EM/Therm resists. ---------- The right to do something doesn't make doing it right. |

Humm.. Informative post.
Might try this setup.
Have you tried pulse lasers for higher DPS?

amarrian ships are made for fighting against blood and sanshas.
I use different ships for each specific rat. think about that.

Beam or Pulse is a matter of preference really, both work. Pulse can kill faster, but you have to be in range to do that damage. If you can afford it, I would really recommend the Abaddon over the Apocalypse though. Abaddon is a tad hard to keep the capacitor stable (skills help a lot here), but it kills faster and has very nice resists.

Only Angels are really rough, never had much of a problem with Gurista or Mercenaries. Don't get missions vs Serpentis from Amarr agents.
