Scroll down to "case" or "conlusion" for a shorter read.
"Any complex system that includes an opportunity for exploitation and misconduct, will always be exploited".
This has always been true and will always remain so. All corporations include vast systems of internal monitoring to reduce such exploitation, but they never manage to entirely remove such conduct.
Some politicians and some corporations have turned to PR companies to manage the negative publicity of such episodes.
Most however seem to believe that if they`re just open about the issue and talk about it, the problem will blow over. That public understanding and minimum disclosure will solve the crises.
In my research of public policies and related scandals what becomes apparant is that the corporations failing in these situations fail to see the importance of public perception.
Case
Public perception might not be entirely reasonable or proportionate regarding the issue at hand, but it will never the less define the company or individual in question. And unless the individual or corporation is providing a unique or invaluable service, they risk loosing their business.
A cautious probative response to allegations of misconduct breed conspiracy theories, outrighteous allegations and general disillusionment.
Countless are the examples that corporations and political parties have been accused of hiding the facts due to their cautious responses, leading to public relations fiascos.
In general, an aggressive and decisive response, swiftly undertaken and precisely delivered will increase brand confidence. Thus some corporations will go further then required simply to use the negative incident as a PR opportunity.
In conclusion
I believe that a far stricter approach to BOB and LV including suspensions, fines and expropriations would have kept this incident small and less significant then it has become. As PR goes CCP have lost a great opportunity at improving brand confidence, because they failed to appreciate the importance of public perception. Thus their brand credibility is suffering needlessly.
What has happened will happen again- it is the nature of any complex system. But next time, brand confidence might already be low. |

It's amazing.
So that means you just indiscriminately and unfairly punish innocent players due to one person's actions (which have already been dealt with long ago), just to satisfy the general public? So if the general public for some reason turn on your corporation, you'd be willing to lose your accounts/corp/alliance to satisfy the public?
Just.. unbelievable. |
