My fellow corp members and I, through our time in Eve have managed to obtain many BPOs. My of them are quite expensive and would be hard for a small corp like ourselves to replace.
Is there anyway that the budding industrialist in my corp can use the BPOs without risking them to corp theft?

simply contract them to "Tassi". That will solve all your problems, or not

If you put a BPO in a corp hanger.
A director or CEO can propose a lockdown vote. The characters with shares can then vote, and if the vote passes, the BPO gets locked down.
Then you give your producer View access to the hanger containing the BPO, and he can use it.
The only way to unlock the print again is by doing another vote on it.

Can someone explain how locking works? Ive seen the options for it, but I have never seen any written guides mention it.
Edit: Thanks Smartacus.

I thought you needed take access to build from a BPO - hence the locking down - you can give take access to the hanger with BPOs in it, so they can be used, but the lockdown prevents them actually being removed

TBH I am more trustworthy than most people would expect from an INFOD member. However, I am more into doing nasty stuff with corpses

Does the user of the locked BPO require hanger access to the BPOs location? Would BPO user be able to make use of the BPO for his own needs without being a factory manager?

Also, it would be rather tiresome to lock 60 blueprints. Is there a quicker way other than by vote? Or can you vote to lock multiple blueprints?

Has this changed in the last year? Because a year ago your producers only needed "query" to use the bpo's to build with.

I was playing with this another day. My corpmate only had the query rights on the hangar with the BPO, and managed to build off it. No need for "take" right on the hangar with the BPO. The player will however need a "take" right from at least 1 hangar from where the minerals will be used. He will also need the "Rent factor slot" and "Factory Manager" roles to start the corp production job.
(If someone knows how to use a BPO in corp hangar to produce for self without taking it out, let me know please)
The lockdown option is to prevent a single director (or even a CEO) from grabbing the BPO and running off with it. As there will be a vote to unlock the BPO, everyone else will notice before the thief can get away with it.

I sense a slight flaw in this plan.

Because control of the BPO's is still in the hands of one person. And BPC's take time to copy. Locking them down and granting "query" access is the most secure way to prevent corp theft while still allowing people to use the BPO's freely for production.

You only need VIEW access on the hangar containing the Blueprint to build from. You need TAKE access on the hangar containing the minerals/components to build the item.
So yeah, just lock them down in a hangar where the producer types have VIEW access and no-one, not even the directors can steal the BPO without a unlockdown vote passes. -

Edited by: WilliamH Bonney on 13/02/2007 02:43:34 One way of protecting BPO's is to give them to the most honest person in your corp (this is not always the CEO btw) and let them control it. Then, as that person controls the bpo's (and you trust in the fact that they aren't going anywhere at all), they then go about copying them, and only BPO copies are ever given to corp members/industrialists.
If you ever get someone in your corp, new or old, continuously asking to "borrow" a corp's BPO, that is when you should start being a bit suspicious.
But, the whole locking of Corp BPO's and all does work as well, but somehow I've still found some able to do work-arounds to that locking, however they do it.
And finally, the "best" way to protect Corp BPO's, is to limit access to the fewest people possible to those BPO's. The more people you give access to, the more oppurtunity you give that they are stolen. Even a person who has been in the corp for a year plus, could get it in their mind that you are "abusing" him/her or whatever, and decide to clean you out.
Make BPC's, that's why they are out there, distribute those to your industrialists. Keep BPO's protected.

You lock down the bpo's. Correct permissions ensure people cant use bpo's for own use (cant take the production fex.)
Do you seriously think anything but the smallest mom 'n pop shop could churn out bpc's of all the bpos they own?

Actually the gentleman is quite smart. He's just seeing things beyond bpo access.

There is something called the laws of unintended consequences. While you may have locked down your bpo's so that no one can steal your assets you still have to give them factory manager access. You do realize that is another target area for disgruntled corp mates you know?
Just imagine a nice 10 Apoc build... cancelled. Materials gone, no record of who. Bet you would not feel pretty smart then would you now?

To be completely safe, well almost, do the following:
Create an alt and put him in your corp - grant him all the rights you'd expect to give your members that will have access to the BPO. Lock up the BPOs as others have suggested, then use your alt to try and steal from yourself or disrupt your operations somehow.
Self-testing is usually one of the best ways to protect yourself.

1- Create a Special Hanger only for Bpos. 2- Purchase a series of secure audit cans to store the bpos 3- Ensure the settings is view for the hanger only and view for the containers only. 4- Locked down the bpo in the containter and place the "password" 5- never give out the bpo if possible, but use bpcs, the slots are usally always free
If someone wants to take the bpo, he now must pass through 5 layers of security.
1 - He must be given hanger access 2 - He must have container view access to open the cans 3 - He must have container take access to take the bpo 4 - He must know the password to take the bpo 5 - If you are giving out the BPCs, then there is no reason why he needs bpo access
I believe this is your best bet. -----------
