Exploit - Bug so extreme that it stops gameplay or technique that can only be performed on the one player side of the game. (revised from here)

There's obviously a point to this thread beyond just getting people to agree/disagree with your definition. Why not just state it.

According to CCP: Exploit is taking advantage of any facet of the game that doesn't work as intended.
According to me: well, my opinion's just as worthles as yours and everyone else's. It's not my game.
Rider to CCP definition: notwithstanding that they've explicitly said taking advantage of any facet of the game that doesn't work as intended is an exploit, there are several examples where they've declared that doing so is not an exploit. So if even they don't know how they define it, how are we supposed to guess

Iv read that link to, i agree. Thing is that as the man say 99% of the world are (in our world carebears) Wich means that in a game like this there have to be a way for both parts to play.

"According to CCP: Exploit is taking advantage of any facet of the game that doesn't work as intended."
CCP stated that without thinking about it, they definately dont mean it.
Otherwise: most module use = exploit. Courier missions to transfer items between players = exploit. Most use of cans = exploit.
That definition is infact Metagameplay, which they actively encourage.
an exploit is:
Purposefully using something that works outside of the game mechanics due to flaws in coding (not balancing!)
so using a really good module combo is not an exploit. accidental gridding isnt, (purposeful is). Duping is, lag isnt etc etc.

Normally the definition for exploiting would be "Purposely taking advantage of bugs in the game". And then the devs always comes in defining what in the game that is a bug and what is meant to work that way :)
Btw, neg. I also mainly agree with that post. Problem is he only seems to play street fighter etc and rather simplistic games. The world of EVE is abit more complex resulting in the issue getting clouded.

1. EXPLOITS
An immediate permanent ban of an account may result if: [...] d. A player has engaged in activity that intentionally causes others to lose connection, suffer latency issues (lag) or to crash to desktop (CTD).

JarJar: Another section they dont actually mean:
By playing the game at all your causing others to have latency issues. If you could give any of your enemys lag-free gaming when you were lagged yourself? no of course not.

True, but irrelevant. You don't log in for the express reason that logging in will lag your enemy. You DO release 40 basic mining drones at a JIP for the express purpose of causing lag; there's nothing there to mine. Note that this is the general "you", not you personally. I have no idea what you personally get up to, and care even less.

im glad its not 'me' personally, because I DO log in for the sole purpose of lagging everyone else out :).
and BTW: you clearly have no idea as to the incredible dmg to armor a swarm of ogre drones can do.

Also irrelevant. What possible difference can the amount of damage done by Ogres have to the release of a swarm of basic mining drones?

It's not an exploit until CCP say it is.

Edited by: Long Reach on 14/12/2003 10:34:21 Since your asking for opinion here, and I am assuming in this case you are referring to the abort warp ability, this is my feeling on the matter. Using this tactic to defeat missile/torpedo attacks was in all probability not its intended function, but an undesirable side effect. Using abort warp as a defense in this fashion definately, in my eyes, is an exploit equal to the side effect of using grids. Remember my opinion only irregardless of any scrub/play to win theories other posts use as justification.
Bleah.....see where assumption leads I never actually answered the question as it was posed. No I would say that definition doesnt entirely cover an exploit.
