Three questions please for those in advance of me.....
1) I cannot find a single Gallente R&D agent who would offer Mechanical Engineering as an R&D path - this seems a little odd as you need that for the ship ones I know? How did the Gallente invent any ships in the first place?
2) And I must have missed it - but what happened to the Invention skill, not seeded and now not needed?
3) Is using an Invention slot the same as any other research slot and needs Lab Ops/Adv Lab Ops to run?

1) I think you need to use minmatar agents, but have you try'ed roden shipyards ?

1) Gallente dont have any. This is a known problem (at least the players know if it, and it has been bugg-reported), but no feedback from the devs on this as yet, so we dont know if they know it yet (so keep bugg-reporting).
2) Invention skill was scrapped. You need the race encryption skill, for example gallente encryption, and the 2 skills corresponding to the datacores you got to use for an invention job.
3. Yes, it counts as a research job when calulating max number of simultational jobs.

Level 4 Caldari Mech Eng agents You really shouldn't limit yourself to just level 4 though. There is a level 3 agent too that gives more RP/day than the low qual level 4s.

Thank you very much for the answers - most as I feared. The lack of some factions doing the necessary research fields is a major problem IMHO - as not being able to do your own research and gain Datacores is a major stumbling block.
I recognise the trade implications, but the price of Datacores makes invention unprofitable. The only sensible way would be to diversify the engineering fields available to each faction, except where there aren't cross-overs. ie - I don't mind having to obtain purely Caldari Datacores to do Caldari-based invention perhaps, but Mech Eng is just too limiting...
Regards & Thanks again
