Mark O'Helm wrote:I think you missunderstand his point. He is not talking about the way we play nor what we enjoy about the game, but the influence society has on our dicisions, how and what we play. And that is correct and kind of obvious.
And if not, then i don' t get it either.
I definitely understand what he's saying. I disagree. The influence of other players' actions has zero influence on a large number of players. That's my point. Assuming that's the case is being unaware of a pretty decent number of playstyles. |

Eve is whatever you want it to be.
Eve is your game.
By labeling it, you are limiting yourself.
Throw caution to the wind, and figure out what Eve is on your own. |

It's a sociopath simulator
But really, I've been away for quite a while due to reasons, but my goals in EVE are always:
- Get power
- Shoot lasers at asteroids
- Look for someone to kill, maybe
- Take their corpse
- Put it in a box
- Drop some buildings onto a planet
But now that I've returned after almost a year, it's like:
Why the hell am I in an NPC corp?
What's this minigame thing?
Where are people getting this armor?
Can I still hoard corpses?
Where am I?
Dafuq is this?!
I dunno I guess that's EVE

Ditto. You can pick 400+ ways of being a spaceship, and starting April 27th you'll also be able to be a space station screensaver, but being a human being and doing human stuff does not belong in EVE.
In other words, a sandbox only allows to play with the sand someone puts in it. And EVEs' sandbox is notoriously missing sand. |

Cidanel Afuran wrote: Again, stop telling other people what the right way is to enjoy EVE
Pray, do point me to where I say to people how they should play EVE in order to enjoy it - you know, like "stop roaming the galaxy" or "stop mining endlessly" or "stop having pvp tournaments in FW" or "everyone go to nullsec" or "if you are not doing xyz you are not doing it right" - any single instance in this thread.
Doing so, besides being utterly futile and egocentric, would be contrary to the very definition of what EVE is, as I wrote it down initially; in a game that simulates a social structure, even the developers avoid doing that - that's the modus operandi of theme-park games.
You are either not able to understand what I'm saying, or you are deliberately attributing to me intentions I do not have, based on your own convictions (or both). Nobody is trying to take away your liberty to choose how you see and play EVE; we're just having a discussion here.
Maybe you should be a bit less sensitive, and stop putting in people's mouths things they've not said, just because you believe they said them. |

Tiberius Seraph wrote:From CCP's point of view, I think it matters a lot - because it's a point you have to handle with care if you want to attract new customers.
It also have to be handled with care not to loose the customers they already have and this is something that have been and most likely will continue to be an issue. My personal opinion is that change should come slowly in EVE and that CCP should focus on improving what they already have rather then attempt to 'rebrand' the game into something different.
There is a huge risk in rebranding and especially if it's done in order to appeal to a more 'casual' crowd of mainstream MMO:s, these players will for the most part find EVE overwhealming and 'unfair' since they can be preyed upon in a way they are not used to from their old MMO:s. |

I see.
You have not figured out how to get past "The Door" in the captains quarters yet have you? All those options and so much more are available just beyond it.

Ultimately Eve is a game where you play against other humans, and have to play along with the monkey nature of humans: hierarchical, social, organised cooperatives who, quite often, jump up and down and beat sticks in the ground to appear more than they are. Nothing in Eve is about systems, AI, the environment. Even PVE functions to feed the monkey sensibilities and need for display.
