Ok, this is something I've been wondering about for a while because it makes me sad Boo-hoo and all that.
Why is it ok on the internets to call people ghey/fag etc but not to insult on race?
Is there some "how to be an internet cool guy" faq that I'm missing?
Obviously this doesn't apply to women as there are no women on the internet (except on sites that take credit cards).

LOL I like the way you complain about discrimination on the internet and then proceed to post stereotypical (offensive) comments about women...

Because its socially acceptable to mock the "weaker" parts of society; and because most of the internet is made up of men, who are on the most basic level very insecure about their mascilinity(sp?). This leads to all this griefing and assholish behaviour one sees. Best way to make people not question your orientation/genitial size is to attack someone weaker than you.

I don't know, try writing Al Sharpton on this topic. I would love to see his response.

Since when?
I mean, seriously - since when has it not been okay on the intarweb to insult a person's race?
Seriously?
Where have you been?
Google for it.

Because far greater injustices have been carried out due to people's race than because of their sexual orientation?
Because your race is a more fundamental aspect of your existence as a person than your sexual orientation, thus discrimination or verbal abuse based on the latter is worse than the former?
Because modern society has developed a completely arbitrary taboo regarding people's race, so that referring to someone as 'that *** bastard' is seen simply as more descriptive than 'that bastard', while 'that black bastard' immediatly sets off racism alarms?
Because it has come to be recognised that there are *** people everywhere, and they have been by and large truly accepted by modern society, while racial slurs bring to the surface the fact that people from another part of the world really are 'different', and that the natural human reaction to things which are 'different' is not good, and in the case of 'different' people not fair and buried as deeply as possible? ----------

I think it's because most people nowadays feel that racism = bad, but many people have not accepted that fgtry = good.
(Most religions and their followers, for example, are opposed to the latter, only accepting it under the pressure of society)
Internet removes the need for political correctness because people are anonymous (if they want to be) --> queue homo bashing. But I think there are simply much less people who genuinely feel that some races are inferior to others --> not so much race bashing.
PS. I think the OP is a coon (JUST KIDDING)

ItĘs been kind of an unspoken knowledge that the gaming (internet) culture is a breeding ground for racism and anti-Homosexuality. I mean I am not in pointing this to Eve but my experience in playing MMOs I have heard/read just some terrible things, maybe its just people harboring some insecurities of their own and simply making remarks about someone's race (sometimes just out and out bigoted like behavior), calling them a homo or picking on the fat guy because they can do so cause they are feeling low about their, dare I say it.. Real Life. The internet will always hide you and although ePeens arenĘt as cool around the break room at work/school on your pc itĘs huge. |
