I dont know all the details of the fight even though i was in system as i heard various things. However you have to remember that not many groups in eve can pull 40 odd dreadnaughts out when they want - I think that the OPs view is that these ships unbalance the game.
You get your fleet together, spend ages travelling between stations to get a good fit, spend ages travelling to your destination.
You jump in or engage at a POS. Someone repsses a button. b000m your entire fleet is in pieces. As someone in my corp pointed out earlier - isnt this the sort of thing what killed planetside?

I don't think there was anything wrong with the Titan dieing in fetal stages. Think "2nd Death star". Hitting it in the yards was a classic move.
I've heard of times where Titans have gotten to fairly low HP. Its not been proven that they can't be killed yet, not by a longshot...
