o/
I'm all good about the whole Planetary Industry feature in eve , but the UI is so bad , I just cant stand it. It's not dynamic , the graphic are cheap , the possibility for set up quite limited. Those colony we build are lifeless , sure they are quite interesting when it come to the idea of bringing diversity and more possibility into sandbox we all love and hate at the same time.
I'm not gonna complaint for the sole purpose of trolling , or whinning. I'm posting this so I can show you how PI could have been if ccp had injected more money into this aspect of the game.
Recently I came upon a game in alpha that I find would illustrate perfectly how Planetary interaction could have been.

Am I the only one here that find that the PI aspect in eve is awful ? |

Well i have no idea what game that is but i would imagine you speed quite a bit of time looking at that screen. with PI not so much, i mean sure it looks pretty but it looks overly pretty, CC would have to do full 3D models for each type of command centre and render each type of planet type before thats an option, and considering WiS isn't ever going to go past the current CQ concept i think that these resources would be better spent on current and new content rather than just making the PI interface that pretty |

Shiny.
A bit overcomplicated for a minigame, unless we get to blow it up. Maybe with not-Legion?

I think a majority of players care less about form than function. If CCP made a intuitive UI that used X's and O's and other letters (like dwarf fortress) to represent different structures I doubt you'd hear much complaining so long as it gets the job done. |

Sadly CCP only cares about the "core" game play aspects and their long term roadmap of making everything in the game player built and destructible. They'll never go back to flesh out PI (which was IMO just a quick and dirty minigame add on). Don't count on the players to raise any fuss over this either as Eve's playerbase (at least the vocal forumites) is the most change averse I've ever seen.

I'd be happy if setting up a PI planet didn't make smoke come out of my mouse, and give me RSI and arthritis in my fingers.
Clearly too much to ask though.
Protect me from knowing what I don't need to know. Protect me from even knowing that there are things to know that I don't know. Protect me from knowing that I decided not to know about the things that I decided not to know about. Amen.

I would not dream of touching it. However, 250+ clicks per planet to switch production runs from one product to another is a little excessive. If this is to be kept then maybe the creation of a custom macro tool for PI would e warranted.

My only complain about PI is the click fest, to setup a factory plant you need to click way too much. I'm pretty sure this is the only reason there is money left in this market anyway |

Tolstoy once expounded in a polemic about how people spawned by societies of a certain make-up would lie with a straight face and no compunction whatever. He was most amazed by those who'd continue to lie even though the truth of the lie had been made clearly, and widely apparent.
I marvel at people like Tolstoy as they seem to still possess a certain, charming naivety and innocence. |

Why does it have to be only a minigame ? Anything not related to pvp is just a minigame in eve ?

A person does not need to be smart to be a sheep , on the other hand , when you are a lone wolf , and you are able to think for yourself differently from other this is a sign of intellect in my humble opinion.

If PI changes it should be changed like they changed stations. We already have districts in EVE, have them appear as evenly designated sectors on a planet, they don't have to follow land & sea borders after all. Rather than colour maps each district has different concentrations of what's on the planet, these shift slightly over time. Have the Command Centre become the only 'Building', each district can have 1 CC on it. You then fit the CC with slots like you have all the extra stuff now, Upgrade it for more slots.
Since PI is limited in spaces, to have PI you have to be in a player corp, you can bombard PI, it has a DPS cap like Citadels (But pretty low) based on it's upgrade level. It has one reinforcement period. If CCP are feeling awesome it could even have automated defences that engage attacking ships & anyone giving them remote support, that take up fitting slots also so you have to balance defence and production.
Click fest problem solved since it's all in one structure now. And the risk free income solved also. |

Although I've never really liked people suggestions for destructible PI, This is one I actually see reason to its not overly destructible, makes it so much simpler and more efficient to use.

They already have actually, whenever you click on a structure in PI it renders a small hologram of the structure. They're just not textured beyond that and they only display one at a time.
