I been flying it for a little bit now and its an awesome ship very easy to setup (very balanced). However I am finding that the 1400mm hit like crap for the most part. Most of my gunnery skills are around 3 (srug/motion/others) and laser and projectile turret skills are pretty much the same.
Using tychoons and multi crystals I can consistently hit for 150-300 (700 peak) at around 25km optimal range. Now with 1400mm and EMP ammo it only hits for around 40-50 (500) peak plus it missies completely every so often and it fires slower (+ ship bonus at lvl2).
I keep readin that people dealing good damage with the 1400 and how they are at least competitive with other turrets. My experience really shows them as complete crap. I figure there is something I am missing and if anyone can enlighten me that be great. I did some mock combat with friends and having all that cap saved with 1400 counts for very little when they do more damage faster. Using xlrg shield booster drains my cap fast as well removing any advantage I have with 1400 no cap usage.
This is without any damage mods, maybe thats what I am missing? Any help at all would be welcome perhaps i need to use different ammo?

u really hit for that dmg with 1400mms??.
I use 1400mms on ma scorp. I hit for avg 250-350 dmg, i have been up to 970 dmg.
they miss about every 4 or 5 shots, and i might get a 50dmg, but very rare.
try using a tracking computer(orion) they hit very hard .
Iv used them in many PVP battles, and they are real good.
here how id use a typhoon.
Lo slots, 3 prj dmg mods, hi slots 4 1400mms(depending on skills, may need a reactor untit in low), 4 launchers with cruise(named ones).
the rest up to taste, maybe tank it with armour.
Use emp ammo in 1400mms, iv hit 2 shots in a row for 900+ dmg at 65km with this ammo, even though it is given a range nerf
train all ur gunnery skills up hi. But most of all train min BS skill to lvl 4, this gives u a 20% btr ROF, and rapid firing to at least lvl 4.

And don't forget that they are LONG RANGE guns. They won't hit well at 30k or below.

Make sense but with EMP ammo my optimal range was around 30km and it was hitting like crap anyways. I will work on rate of fire and my gunnery skills. Coule you please tell me what the proj dmg mods are called and roughly how much they cost. :D

First you can use a ammo with less range penalities.
Secondly most projectiles have a HUGE falloff for a reason - a weapon is still pretty effective till it reaches 66% of it's falloff.
For EMP this would mean a effective range up to 60 km (without skills).

the 1400mms are range guns, but as all my PVP happens at 20K or below, and i still use them, that kinda speaks volumes.
they hit all the way down to 10k, no probs.
i wouldnt even consider using any other ammo than EMP, i can hit up to 70km with this.
cross lateral low slot mods(im sure they give 9.5% bonus, dont quote me on the name).
u do get 10.5% ones, but not sure on name.
keep using the typhoon .

Dude I hit for 400 on average in my typhoon with standered dmg mods.
Also ignor that optimal range. doesn t mean crap on 1400mm. You got alota falloff, use it. EM ammo hits ok at 40km or 50km for me. And by ok I mean 400 dmg avg, and 900 dmg good shot.

I have hit for over 700 dam at 80K+ with the 1400's using EMP ammo.
Without your setup I cant comment further

Edited by: nem0nic on 15/12/2003 19:47:24 Flat out, you need to train your gunnery skills more. if you get LPT to 4 and Min BS to 4, you will see MUCH BETTER results with your 1400s (assuming the typhoon has the same native bonus as the tempest). Training Rapid firing will drop your ROF.
As for mods, try a couple low slot damage mods (FM3, Counterbalanced, etc) and a mid slot tracking computer. I don't get much better results using 4 damage mods than 3, so for me 3 is the most I'll equip. As it stands I'm hitting for between 400-500 consistantly at ranges of up to 40K. I mix phased plasma and EMP to cover longer ranges better. |
