I think we all can take from the lesson that war on a grand scale is good for eve, especially the drone civil war (drone walkers vs xix death) and the MBC vs the imperium. (half of eve). We have succesfully reversed the massive decline of population in the game. http://eve-offline.net/?server=tranquility and the population is starting to tick back up.
Question is, when the war is over how do we make sure a new one occurs to replace the old one? |

The Imperiums downfall will create a huge power vacuum and as the fall of Rome IRL taught us chaos and conflict will follow. I don-¦t think you need to worry that there will be lack of content after the major wars are over. |

Come on, all the PVEers claim the decline is due to bad PvE and 62% of the player base have no interest in pvp.
The numbers can't be picking up because of pvp. That doesn't fit Ishtanchuk's narrative.

the huge influx of @sshats in Eve prolly has nothing to do with any steady decline

As far as i can see war "MBC vs CFC' is over. All what is happening is 'players vs Fozziesov' now.... Yes, CFC loses systems and stuff but it's mainly 'grinding timers'.
So we actually have 1 war now.

Don't sell the fur before shooting the bear! WWB is not over now and it might take some time to do so.

You mean, the PvPers were right all along? You need both, you need a content driver for conflict ie pve content and the war or conflict over the pve content and its associated resources+Rewards. |

Or the new PVE content. Or any combination of the above. Or none of the above.
Whatever it is, I'm just glad to see the steady decline coming to an end.

We're talking about the damage bad PVE did to the majority of accounts over 11 years of this game. As compared to a war that has been going for only about 3 months. The timescale is also extremely relevant to the discussion.

The ****drama**** that the northern conflict has created has been excellent advertising material. Come see an emperor rattle hos sabre while his territory is burned to the ground! Come one, come all to the spectacle where you - yes you! - a total newb can make a difference!
As for me I'm taking a short sabbatical to think about what I'm going to do with all my **** I evacuated.

By making the game "goon proof": Mechanics in place to prevent weaponization of boredom. They did manage to "ruin YOUR game" but the players apparently have had enough.

When have you seen any advertisment for eve? Eve is known to some leet players that know where to look. The problem is, that you as a Eve player are a target for Eve advertisement while non-players never hear of it. IMHO CCP should look where potential!!!! players are and not pay for people that visit eve sides every das: These guys are already playing eve so advertisement is wasted money!
First Problem are the consoles: most games are on consoles and every game that doesn't work on consoles will loose a great chunk of players. If someone thinks it through an developes an UI that works on consoles it would benefit the PC players too.
Second problem is the missing advertisement. IMHO every Dark Souls player is a potential Eve player and Dark Souls is selling big time. So Eve should advert in Dark Souls forums and underline that is hard and unforgiving. These players DON'T want easy-peasy games they want it hardcore and that's a good description of Eve. |

If CCP wants more players in EVE here is how to attract them.
1st is advertisement, events, create buzzes around the whole game ect (learn from Blizzard)
2nd is to keep developing PVE content. Many players do not want to do pvp. But in EVE, if you want the good stuff you are forced into null sec, where you will end up being podded now and then. Not saying good stuff should come easy.
3rd is to keep developing the whole PVP content of course, since the whole game is wrapped around pvp.
I for one like to changes that has been implemented since I last played. Skill extractors / injectors, mining ships that can fit covert ops cloaks, skins for ships ect.. in other words: f2p wannabe game.
I think the decline may be related to - some of these new things added - PVP for not being what it once was. - People growing tired and moving on playing other games.
But hey - if the game never developed, do you honestly believe it would have survived in 11 years?
Two possibilities exists:
Either we are alone in the universe-áor we are not.
Both are equally terrifying.

The increase of players on the server does NOT necessarily have too much to do with the current conflict in the game.
Prices of plex are coming down (around 1 billion atm), and mineral/ore (and ships for the war) prices are increasing. This means that people can have more alts online and cover the cost of the plex(s) to keep those accounts running
Also: Skill injectors have been introduced. I know several friends who have multiple alt accounts, and on these accounts they are perfectly trained for the job the owner wishes them to do, therefore they are now SP farmers. Considering they have +5's and a full remap of attributes, one can produce an injector in around 9 days (lets make it 10 for simplicities sake) cost of extractors currently are around 250mill, whereas injectors are 650mill -- this give us a net profit of 400 million per 10 days 400*3 = 1200 (or 1.2 billion)
Remembering that 30 days SP farming = 1.2 billion And plex prices are 1 billion It's now possible to keep alt accounts online with SP farming alone (for now.. it may change eventually) |

Don't they? I was aware of EVE for about a decade before I started playing it (yeah, I'm a noob). I think EVE's unique culture means awareness of it is pretty high even amongst people who don't play videogames at all. If I say "I play EVE" I don't expect I'll have to explain what it is, no matter who I'm talking to. |

The Wars gave a lot a people a reason to put down their ISK hoes and pick up their squirrel rifles. Most fun I've had in EVE for a long, long time. High sec newbies in null, asking basic mechanics questions ("How get kills to show up on KBs?") Usual high sec wardec crew (Marmite, etc.) giving the same high sec guys tactical challenges to tackle. "What's my next move? This risk vs. that benefit? Or how about this other one?" Plus people thinking about the many vulnerabilities of newb blob organizations, and how to sap them from within.
Then there's the out of game news and propaganda dramatic (soap) opera going on, for your offline at work entertainment. The basic premise of the EVE game design is shining! |
