So i was just reading the scientific articles from backstories, and they did mention jump drives a few times that are mounted on ships and are capable making jumps between systems. Could this be the solution for huge blobs camping gates (JV1V a good example)? Them being relatively new technology it could be a good time for them to introduce them. Anyone else noticed or have you ever even been reading them

But... aren't there already ships with these drives in game now?

Edited by: R34PER on 18/02/2007 00:46:24 Warp drive is not a Jump drive. Warp drive is inside system, the other between two. Go read them and see for yourself.

The jump drives mentioned in the backstory (not including the references to warp drives as jump drives) are more concerned with travel to systems with no gates.
Another type is the in-game type, which can instantly jump to a system if someone goes there and sets up a cyno. ----------

And who says we cant abuse it to believe there is no gate to the system we want to go to And cynos n stuff are for capital ships, that a fellow citizen will not get his hands on. And for that you need someone to go in advance.. through a gate.

only capital ships and they can only enter high sec space if they were built in high sec(i think)

those built in high sec can they in whatever system they are in, but if they jump out they cant come back.
They can no longer be built in high sec anyways so its a rare case that i wouldnt worry about. ------------- Midshipman Lithalnas - Logistics Division - Hadean Drive Yards

I saw a Moros in Aramachi (0.5) this very morning. So they must still be able to be built in hisec. ------ ------

No, it was just orgininally built there. Capitals cannot be built in high sec. _________________________

That would be sweet if they put jump drive modules in game. that means i can go near empire and do business. i dont think the cyno thing will be a problem.

Yes, the jump drives mentioned in the backstories are the jumpdrives on capships
backstories were written before capships, capships are released, jumpdrive prophecy is fullfilled..
The requirements for cyno's, and the discrepancy this brings to jumpdrives allowing transport to systems without stargates is most likely just a moment of last minute design balance.

maybe as a tech 4 module that takes up say 3 low slots and like all cynos u need someone at the other end. Then again just hope in a mothership or titan for a jump bridge

Edited by: R34PER on 21/02/2007 07:55:38 Not insta-travel, i want to carry my ship with me too you know And those 23/7 bubblecamps at 0.0 chokepoints really **** me off already. And if you read all i had to say, you could only jump one system at a time with them, maybe add some charges to it so you cannot go 100% safe all the time.

Well from my research originally there were no Stargates, in alpha you essentially jumped like the cap ships. This idea was removed and jumpgates instigated because it was so hard to find ships to fight. With the new scanning system it might be time to revisit this idea.
Perhaps reintroduce it as a rig. One that of course requires Jump Drive Operation. 200 calibration.
Keep in mind you'd have to devote some cargo space for fuel.
Make the range dependent on size of the ship its mounted on in fact you'd probably need a different Rig for each ship size like with the ABs and MWDs.
It would certainly offer an interesting situation tactical and strategically, no longer would it be enough just to guard the first gate.
This could also be the means to avoid the warp bubbles something the game has long needed. ( Though of course you'd need a cyno pilot near the target :) ).

No.
That would make the jump bridge on titans useless and cause freaking chaos. Judging by your post on the choke point camps, seems like you just dont want to join a proper 0.0 corp or find alternate routes in order to get into 0.0.
