edit: - signed, it is quite annoying.

1. They aggro entire spawns when released; 2. it takes repeating the same command 2-3 times for them all to follow it; 3. you will tell them to attack one target and when you take a look you realize one or two have gone off to do something else (not the same as point 2 because they start attacking but then will leave in mid fight); 4. and, they do not MWD back to you... just kind of take their bloody time.
Those are the ones that **** me off to no ends and the only reason Ive stoped using drone ships for pve... still do in pvp though. Ishtar ftw :)

#1 issnt really a drone issue, as the same issue appears when accompanied by a wingman.

I figured out that CCP cant fix em. If they could then why, as you just said yourself, would they ignore these problems for 3 years?
CCP cant fix the AI as they arent spec'd in AI. So untill they figure out to get some ppl in the crew that knows about it, we can only use the broken drones we got so far.
We can request improvements to drones till world war 4 but CCP will still keep the improvments to turrets and launchers, thats just what they do.
Drones are doom'd

Well supposedly they just appointed a guy as exclusively "the drone guy", so maybe he'll fix this stuff.

Actually, it is. I suspect the reason is to make missions harder when you have a companion so you dont fly through them. The problem with drones is that you are still just one ship and, while this may not be an issue for a raven, megathron, tempest, apoc, etc... because they have other primary means of killing rats this is a problem for the dominix, isthar and ishkur whose primary weapon are the drones. Although, to be honest I have never really had a problem with this. The only thing I hate is when the drones choose to attack a un-aggroed spawn and get themselves shot up

Oddly, I have only ever had problems with the drones sometimes being a bit sluggish to return to the drone bay. I have never had issues with the drones drawing everything's aggro nor randomly attacking something other than the target I assign them.

well ur problem number 1 is a tricky 1 for them. they made it so that drones aggro what aggro'd u so that if u get jammed they go after the ecm ship which is frickin awesome, but as a result of this they tend to charge after the sentry guns to attack them instead of coming back to the bay as they should
Apart from no.1 all those issues have been there since i remember and it really is about time they got sorted.

I know why they haven't fixed it!
Because there is no skill called "CodeDroneAI" on the market for CCP to buy.

At this point I would accept them adding the ability to toggle drone AI on and off. When off give them a command and when they can no longer follow that command (Say attack a target thats now gone) they sit and wait for a new command.
It's not just CCP, almost every on-line game that has some kind of "pet" for players to use realizes that sometimes the AI is just wonky and the players need to be able to disable it. UO is one of the ones that doesn't and ask any tamer if they have a macro thats just screaming at the pet (Stop. Follow me. Stop... STOP STOP STOP STOP).

It's true but we can't really use it as argumentation. I don't reckon that CCP has ever said much about drone issues at all.
You guys tells they got a drone-guy in the crew now? - where did you read this?

5. "Show info" on your drones doesnt errrm show info. It only show the basic stats and your skills / bonuses are not taken into account unlike every other weapon or module used, but I'm sure you knew that already, just adding my 1 isk

A simple way to stop your drones going rogue and aggroing everything is to keep them in the hold until you have full aggro from a spawn. Then and only then do you release them and get yourself moving. Using the [ctrl] + [LMB] to lock an enemy in a spawn (as opposed to clicking in overview) also helps as you can keep them focussed on that group and you avoid accidentally inviting a new spawn into the action. It is annoying that drones take a while to respond or that they split up their attack sometimes but if you keep an eye on things you shouldn't have a problem. I think people take it for granted that drones will do as they're told and that's why they get moody over it. Don't get complacent and your combat will go a lot smoother.

I wonder if the drone bugs only apply to certain types of drones at certain skill levels. I'm a heavy drone user and haven't noticed any problems with T2 mediums. There used to be a problem with drones not doing what they are told, but that seems to have been fixed. I don't think we are talking about a bug here, but drones behaving differently then people expect them to. If there was a sure fire way to replicate a bug it would be easier to fix. Saying "golly, sometimes drones do x y z" is useless because there are too many variables involved.

Yes, dronebugs seem only to apply to certain drone types. While Ogre I/Hammerhead II/Vespa II seem to work fine, except the occasional target switching of the Ogre`s (target far away, long approach time), the Warrior II`s are screwed. They work fine for attacking, but as soon as you try to get em back into the bay, they start strolling...: "nah`, don`t want to get back to that dark, small drone bay. it`s so much fun outside...so much space.... bah :("
I always have to approach them to get `em back into bay in a reasonable time (which isn`t always fun, in 0.0 while hunting in my ishkur)
