Maybe I was not paying attention to them before. But I don't remember seeing so many npc convoys. They are everywhere now. Do you see this increase? Or they were there and I was drunk? |

Not really an increase, but i never really understood what hey are for. I have only seen them in high sec so i dont dare shoot at them.

CONCORD won't engage you for shooting convoys, but the sentries will. You take a standings hit for shooting them, but not a sec status hit. Do they still drop anything worthwhile? Been a long time since I shot one.

Last time I killed them ( with an other char) was ages ago and they only dropped some trade goods. I think it has been nerfed already in exodus or even before that, because drops were too good. I doubt that it has been changed since then.
There was once a guide to that explained under which circumstances the sentries don't attack. I've killed some of those convoys with a slasher and a rifter, orbitting them and shooting with autocannons. The tracking of the convoys' guns is quite crappy.
A newbie can kill them easily, if the sentries don't fire.

If the convoy belongs to the corporation that owns the station they're near, then the sentries will shoot.
If the convoy doesn't belong to them they won't.
A general good rule of thumb is to avoid shooting them, unless the haulers are a different race than what the station is. The exception to this is Jove corporation stations.

There are Hijacking Guides somewhere on the forums, I'm too lazy to find and link em, but to safely destroy a convoy, you have to track it from its station of origin to its destination, and if its destination station is owned by a different corp, its safe to sttack it without intervention.
Frankly the time involved vs the rewards simply isnt worth it as far as high-sec hijacking goes. It can take 20 mins to wait for a convoy to form up and jump to a new station, and the value is typically under a mil isk. It's fun the first few times, but then it jus gets too tedious. I havent jacked any low-sec/0.0 convoys, so I can't speak as to the potential rewards.

I'm just surprised that lately I see so many of them. I was wondering if it was part of something bigger in the PvE and/or roleplaying aspects of the game. Are the NPC corps preparing for an upcomming war? Stockpiling supplies? |

Seem to be the same number as ever. Would not mind seeing more, seeing as how I like to shoot them :)

Some time ago there was the possibility to attack those convoys outside sentry gun fire.
Was 100km and was increased to 150km.

Hmmm but what if you want to shoot some empire Navy ships? CONCORD will shoot you if you attack those?
