If I'm in a stealth bomber, and I fire a volley of missiles, will they still do damage (hit their target) if:
1) I lose my lock after being jammed/ECMed by another player 2) My ship is destroyed before the missiles hit
I can't seem to find the "rules" for these two scenarios after extensive searching |

1a. Yes (but someone may want to fact-check me on this). 2a. No. Even drones will stop attacking when their "host" ship has been destroyed.

Really? I thought missiles still did damage even after you were destroyed as long as you fired before you died? |

It would depend on the game mechanic. If the missile is just 'damage waiting to happen' meaning it's all calc'd when the missile is fired, then it should still happen no matter what happens to the launching ship. This is the reality of a 'fire and forget' weapon. That is really what modern missiles are so if the damage goes away, then I think the game is not appropriately doing missiles, but they could be doing as an intentional mechanic to kill missile ships ASAP, which I do anyway. I despise Missile boats...
Very few modern missiles of today are guide to target. Most are guide to update with independent seekers. If the update pointer is lost (laser, radar, heat) it doesn't matter as the seeker has the lock on either immediately or within a short period. They are not experimenting with self tracking and seeking missiles that 'loiter' over a target area, identify targets on their own and attack on their own. Nasty stuff.
I can only imagine a future world like EVE would have missiles as smart.

I've got a corp mate who killed someone and on the KB it said something like:
"Ship: POD Weapon: Hammerhead II" etc...
So I do believe the drones can keep attacking, even if the ship is destroyed. Definitely for a few seconds after the ship is lost.

Definitely for a few seconds after the ship is lost. You'll see the same thing with turrets sometimes. The ship on the killmail isn't recorded until the other ship dies, so if you switch ships or are floating in your pod the killmail will be inaccurate. I've seen a crow on a killmail with rapid heavy missiles for example. It doesn't mean the drones continued fighting though.

he sicked his gecos on us and then jumped the gate (yeah i dont know either) scary thing was though his gecos kept ****ing chewing on us after he had left.

Actually, this would be a interesting advanced drone 'twist'. Maybe make this an actual skill... AI Drone Reprogramming. Let them continue to attack after the launching ship leaves. This isn't a dissimilar behavior from what NPC "Drones" do in their little nastiness, or even Sleepers. Call it a Sleeper technology. Make it another step past the Advanced Drone skills.
Advanced Drone AI reprogramming:
Level 1: Your drones continue to attack the same target until they are destroyed themselves.
Level 2: Your drones will protect your 'wreck' or last departure point, attacking any non-blue non-purple that comes within 3,000 meters of it, even if it is tractored, for a period of 5 minutes.
Level 3: Your drones will Loiter near your wreck and engage any hostile within a 5 km radius of the wreck or last departure point for 10 minutes.
Level 4: The drones will Loiter for 20 minutes and engage any hostile within 10km of your wreck or last departure point.
Level 5: Your drones are able to work independently. You can set a protection object (Asteroid, cargo container, station, citadel, etc.) and order them to engage any hostile target coming within 30km of the object or attack if attacked from any range they will engage the attacker.
This opens up a myriad of uses for drones. Perhaps even letting non-drone races use drones defensively (from cargo bay) and a whole host of other options. Most drones are pretty easy to down, but yeah, in the case of the heavies and expensive critters, they could be a formidable force. Then again, uncloak and smartbomb them to death would probably be the easy solution for massed drones. So, it could be balanced if done properly.
Then it wouldn't be a bug... it would be a "feature" LOL!

Note that drones are the source of Rogue Drones.
i.e. Never trust these insane little beasties. They have a mind and plan of their own, and are always waiting for the chance to go rogue.
In the history of EvE, I'm not aware of drones ever being completely bug free. I think it is a feature. Part of their nature. |

This new system would not happen to be called skynet or cyberdyne would it?

Probably named HAL or something like that.
Would be funny if it was sleeper based and you dropped a set protecting a POCO, came back and they'd all turned into Rogue Drones or Sleepers... "I gotta kill my own friggin' drones! ARRRGH!"
Anyone ever notice that EVE is entirely missing MINES as a battle concept?
