Where and how do I begin? Obviously specific skills are required but, perhaps a list of begiiner choices in order to get started. Items and materials needed to make things is the big question. I've found 1 station that shows RAM for sale in market but not others; why is that?
thx Ffrank

Read the player guide on manufacturing; it's horribly out of date, but it lists the skills and the various attributes of blueprints accurately enough still.
To make T1 stuff all you need is the blueprint and minerals, both of which are in plentiful supply on the empire market. Then you go to a station and put the BP and the minerals in your hangar and open the manufacturing thingy and start a job. It's been a while... -

The only skill you actually need is Industry.
As Crumplecorn said, take the minerals and blueprint to a station with a free manufacturing slot, right click on the blueprint, manufacture.
If you want to be competitive at it, you'll need Production Efficiency to a high level (if not 5) and a well researched blueprint.
Mass Production and another skill (Advanced Mass Production?) lets you set up more jobs.
Supply Chain Managment is for when you want to expand your manufacturing business over several stations.

Mining some of the ore yourself should be better than buying, mine something like scordite and omber if you find some in high security.
For most of T1 items, you should have very few preriquisites and it is writtent on the blueprint. At the beginning, ammo BPO are affordable, and there's always need for more ammo (the more players, the more ammo are fired...)! Look which ones look more profitable (mineral requirement and average region selling price).
For the skills, there is a very important one that reduces the building mineral cost (until you reach the "perfect" level on the blueprint) and some research on the blueprint can help much, Material Efficiency will reduce the 10% wasted at the beginning to a very low percentage when you have a high ME (seems like going too high is unuseful, 30 seems to be a common level where people stop research). Also Production Efficiency research can be done and give you faster building times (thre are skills for that too) wich meand reduced factory costs (you pay the time). -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! Just remember that minerals you mine yourself aren't free . If you understand why straight off, you are already way ahead of the pack . -

Indeed, even more so if you don't have alot of skills for mining or refining.

Edited by: Eleana Tomelac on 19/02/2007 17:36:27 Maybe it's because most industrialists I know are also great miners and refiners... Right, if you can't fly a barge with good skills and refine it perfectly, buy minerals.

You can sell your goods faster if you sacrifice some profit for minerals your don't have to spend time mining.
A Supply of Money Blueprints Minerals start selling standard ammo first
If you're doing it by yourself, you need to get an industrial ship to haul to a station. Those are the basic things you should be trying to get. Check the stations, starbases, and outposts forum for more details.
