Yesterday saw (finally) the 1st Tournament present us with our first ever champion "Lando".
After speaking with those competitors, and with seeing how the organisation and running of this event went, I have made many improvements to the whole structure of the tournament.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The 2nd tournament will be looking to take 16 participants.
The tournament will occur on a Sunday at 18:00 EVE (GMT) time - Only apply if you are able to attend at this time, for an approximate maximum of 3 hours.
To Claim your place in the tournament you need to send me an evemail and the entrance fee - Also.. when I am able to set a date (As I have to work around my working hours) you will need to send me an evemail confirming your availability. If I do not recieve both of these evemails, you will not have a place on the tournament.
Your planned fit needs to be sent to me a respectable time before your match
Rules
- The entrance fee is 10 Million ISK. This is refundable IF you have not confirmed that you will be able to attend on the chosen date. IF you have confirmed your availability for the chosen date, you will not recieve your entrance fee back.
- There are prizes for 1st and 2nd place, at 50% and 30% of the entrance fee respectivley.
- Tech 1 cruisers only, not faction cruisers. Just the basic, off the market Cruisers
- Tech 1 fittings only, this does include tech 1 named modules, but no faction or officer fittings. evemail me if you have any questions
- Combat will take place in a selected low-sec system, using can flagging methods to ensure legal combat.
- The location is given out, firstly as a region, and then as a specific system - this is to help with security purposes.
- ECM - in respect of Electronic counter measures, and ECM bursts are forbidden. Any other form of ECM are allowed.
- Ship scanners will be used to ensure that no bypassing of ship restrictions occur.
- A list of your fit must be provided to the referee before the match takes place. This may be updated at any time, but must be finalised within a respectable time frame from the beggining of your match.
- Warping out of the 'match arena' during the fight will result in you forfeiting that match. Warping out to save your ship is allowed. However, this may later change.
- a 15 minute time period will exist for each match.
- A can will mark the centre of the arena, and no ship may go further than 150 km from that can, or they will forfeit the match.
- The fight will start with competitors 30km away from each other
- Ship destruction is the method of deciding who wins the fight.
- In the event of a tie, a number of things may happen:
1, If one competitor is clearly struggling to remain alive, while their opponent is still very much alive. The opponent will be called the victor.
2, If one competitor has actively avoided combat for the 15 minute period, as they knew they would lose, they will lose the match.
3, If the match is genuinely a dead heat, the two pilots can decide to let one of them go ahead and if that person wins any money, they will share it 50/50. OR, the spectating pilots can vote. OR The two pilots can be assigned different opponents (provided they aren't the last match in the round) in an attempt to find a reuslt that isn't a dead heat.
Unfortunatley, we may come across a situation where a solution is hard to find, but we hope that all those involved will work in a responsible manner to find a solution.
- If you are found to bypass one of these rules, a warning will be issued and disqualification from the current tournament, and a subsequent bypass will recieve a ban from all future tournaments.
I am currently looing for a method to deal with an odd competitor (due to a drop-out or a no-show) if anyone has ideas, please comeforward.
Please join in-game channel "Tecron Public Information" if you would like to talk to me.

Okay, count me in for the second round, too. :) 'Course, depends on which Sunday you finally plan this.
I do want to suggest a procedure addition though. You were using a ship scanner to make sure everyone had legit fittings. You mind adding a cargo scanner? No reason people should be allowed to use faction ammo.
Also, losing expensive ships can definitely keep people out of this, and if you use an inexpensive ship, you aren't likely to win. As I said before, I wouldn't mind seeing different classes based on how much a ship cost to assemble, but I understand we need some more interest before we can start doing that. I was wondering if there is more we can do try and save a losing ship.
In the first tourny, I tried to warp away when it was clear that I was going to lose. And Lando tried to stop firing on me, but I wasn't fast enough on clicking something to warp to, and Lando's drones were able to finish me off even after his turrets fell silent. I was wondering if we could have a medic on hand to try and help.
I'm thinking that well fitted Osprey or Scythe with each of the contestants locked. As soon as one cries uncle, he starts repairing and transferring cap as hard as he can. This could also help between matches, since trying to dock too soon after a match can get your ship popped.
I'm willing to bring the medic cruiser and man it during any match that I'm not participating in. I'd welcome someone else piloting it while I'm fighting, but it will be very well fitted, so skills will need to be a bit high.
Aside from that, anyone have a voice server to offer? It would be fun in general, and would make crying uncle easier.

Yarr, I will probably be there if there's still room left. Can I not use ANY T2 gear, not even reppers and stuff? If so I might have a chance :)
Will send money once the date is set, provided there's still places.

Why give away our fit in such an official manner, in advance? With this information you can have a friend wins the first place simply by telling him who fitted what, and then you get to keep the ISK.
The winner should keep the loot, and the loser should... lose!
If those two issues are fixed then I will join.

Classes is something I have already looked at, however, there are a few issues with this.
As you suggest, a class based on how much is spent: - Where is the boundary? - SP still play a major role, for example, a high SP character fits a cheap ship and dominates that class. - How do you police this? checking each fit against the jita market, however, that is ALOT of work.
However, I do completley understand you concern, however, until I can see what the actual effects are and whether it is the SP or expensive ship that causes the issue.
Yes, scanning for ammo is something I entirely overlooked.
Warping away is an issue I feel thats going to cause a lot of debate, for example, see the poster above who said "The loser, loses." The risk needs to be great enough that there is actually a risk vs reward ratio, however, a too steep a risk, then the less people willing to participate. It's something thats going to be decided with time, as of now, only one tournament has run and it's too early to say for sure.
As for the logistics cruiser, this is tied to the saving the ship idea and will have to wait for a while.
TS may be available from my alliance - more info later

To be honest, I'm not sure why I said the fit needs to be sent to me, other than the fact that it made perfect sense at the time. I suppose that it isn't really nesecary. However on the idea I might cheat - For 160 mill I would trash the reputation of this whole concept AND my main? Plus, I don't cheat.
The loot issue also stems from the issue expressed above about the cost of entering. I didn't think of the loot issue until after the first match. To you, does a bit of T1 gear mean THAT much? To the loser, it means he is 20% closer to fitting a new ship for the next tournament. I don't see any reason to change this

1. In the case where you would use the fitting information to have your buddy win, no one would know as long as it is well done and your reputation would be spotless. Also it is not necessary since a ship scan must be done anyways to verify, and by that time it is to late for this supposed buddy to change his fitting accordingly (Well unless you have are very well organized with a refitting carrier ready, but then this is not very likely).
But it looks like you agree to drop this requirement so I'm happy.
2. You are right that looting some T1 gear is not very important, it's a matter of principle. In a carebear world the loser try to warp out before his ship explode, and ask to keep the loot. Another type of pilot would rather be 100% into the fight to the end, accepting the the risk of loss while looking forward to the glory of a win. The second option provide much more exiting fights, but if this is what it takes to have enought people then so be it.
I'll be there, and whomever destroy my ship can get the T1 loot

Valrandir,
First, I hadn't thought about the concern you raise as to disclosing our fittings. And I agree, there is no need to do that. But I do think fittings should be disclosed as soon as the tournament starts, though, and not at your first scan.
For safeties sake, all spectators were watching in shuttles. They then dock to grab their combat ship, and have seen at least one contestant fight, so they can tweak their loadout. So, disclose at tounament start, but not before, and keep to fitting throughout tournament (unless we want to introduce a side board).
As to the carebear aspect, I would agree in letting the winner keep the loot, if it weren't for the fact that a T1-fitted ship costs many times more than a T2-fitted ship. I'd much rather fight and fight more often, and to that end, I need to save money to fight. In the last tournament the winner's ship cost about 90M. If I have to spend 100M (ship plus entrance fee) for every tournament, then I'm simply not going to compete as often. And that is no fun for anybody.

I will never disclose another players fit, and no players will ever be required to tell anyone what they fitted, even after the match.
The simple answer is that provided I scan the player and ensure there are no T2 items or ECM then the fir is legal - This will get more complicated when a sideboard is brought in, but won't be impossible.
Loot, is one of the things that is going to have to be decided over time. If most people want the loot to go to the winner, then that is the course to be taken, and vice versa.
The trouble with all these issues with multiple and reasonable points of view is that only 4 people have played so far, so a reasonable answer is impossible to decide on.
For now, have fun and provide as much feedback as possible, accept that it isn't perfect yet, but your efforts will make it better in the long run.

I would assume most participants would carry all their ammo in their ship, and from that you can reload at will.
In terms of having reserves in a station. You can come and go between the station and arena at will, and can resupply that way. Your fit is rechecked before each match, to ensure you have not changed your fit.
I hope that clarifies things for you.

Ok. Here's an update.
So far 6 people have sent the entrance fee. And I am now looking to drop the total entrants to 8, due to the slow intake on people.
That leaves two spots open on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested, then please read the rules and send the 10mill ASAP.
However, if plenty more people start signing up, I might increase it back to 16.. more fun for all

I would aim to get it going within a month, depends how soon I can get the amount of people... I think I have 8 now, but if more enter, then I'll either wait till 16 or think something up.
I don't want to publicaly announce the region, therefore I'll wait till I have all the participants.

Rigs and omplants are allowed, simply because there is no way to regulate them.
You can also pay the entrance fee, and when the actual date and time is released, you can drop out and claim a full refund.
It is only if you say that you can make the date THEN drop out that you lose the entrance fee.
