I haven't got the paitence to search the entire forums so forgive me for posting this again if it already has.
Anyone know if CCP have ever thought about running TV Adverts promoting the game. I'm sure you CCP fellows have tons of money that a little can be spent on advertising the game. The Revelations trailer is absolutely awesome, as was the No Other Destiny one, kudo's to whoever designed/made those trailers.
So all you CCP and Dev peeps looking here, take a leaf from Blizzard's book and put an advert a couple of times a week on various countries TV stations like they are doing with WoW.

If CCP took a leaf out of Blizzard's book, the adverts would use rubbish CG not seen in the game...

However, EVE doesn't need non-game CG to make it look good, our graphics are good enough as is. --------------- If you are ferocious in battle, remember to be magnanimous in victory. - Lt. Col. Tim Collins |

most contries have laws, something related to truth in advertising on tv...
I do not see ccp advertising on tv anywhere due to that alone.

We've got one of those at work (a real doll. Litterally). Her wig is really funny to walk around in. People just can't concentrate on what they're doing. - EVE is sick. |

I've seen the odd copy in GAME once or twice recently, but it could just be really old stock before the publisher, Simon & Schuster, went kaput... It's probably so out of date now, it's embarrasing that the shops haven't just got rid of them.

Edited by: Soporo on 20/02/2007 00:24:36 Yeah, it could go something like this:
*Sad music*
*Shot of a sullen fat kid with pimples and a scowl*
"Kicked out of other MMO's?"
*Shot of a balding 40 year old with a bad combover and a nervous tic gazing longingly at his old UO game.
"Anti-griefing rules got you down?"
"Try EVE-Online!" *big booming voice*
*Vids of random gankage, macroing, farming, exploiting*
"Where you can gank n00bs all day long! As an added bonus theres little to no documentation! Steal, Scam, Spy, Alt, Farm, Macromine and many many other Meta-gaming options for the clever! Dont worry about the EULA, hell, we havent a clue ourselves!!"
*sullen fat kid perks up and stops kicking the dog* *bald guy looks up and smiles*

*Inspirational climactic music*
"EVE-Online, where all your metagaming dreams come true..."

TV ads would be a big waste of money.
In order of priority and maximum bang for your buck:
1. Introduce better incentives/rankings/ISK/BPOs/RL cash, whatever for existing players to tell a friend 2. Advanced Search Engine Optimisation of site + forums 3. Pay-per-Click Advertising + performance marketing (CPA/CPS) 4. Optimise affiliate channels 5. Optimise partner channels + increase game-news related PR 6. Optimise in-house email channel + run competitions 7. Sponsorship of external email lists 8. Opt-in email advertising (no, not spam - there are legitimate ways of doing this ethically believe it or not) 9. Banner advertising targeting specific sites (Adwords CPM / image ads) 10. TV ads, if you still have budget left.

Okay, now if only we can use the above into a real ad ^_^;;
But seriously, I'm sure you would all like to see the game you waste (To good extent) hours of your life on being advertised on TV now and then. Would be nice, and its hardly going to be a high cost promotion. If its one ad lasting for 2-4 minutes showing whatever they decide 2 or 3 nights a week aired in late evening time then the costs seem very low to company like CCP is now.
Also this isn't the the place to *insert appropiate bad language here* about the game content, A) Wrong topic and B) Getting old through reoccurent whining.

Eve dosn't need to advertise on TV. Because:
a) Eve is having problems with "too many" subscribers. b) Eve was built (both the game and business model) with 100K subscribers in mind. We are already waaayyy over that. c) Think of the lag!!! d) Eve gameplay is not for everyone, and to be honest Ive just about read my limit in forum whines. e) Eve doesn't need to advertise as its plenty successful.

This member of the Jury nods at Crumplecorn's statement.
WoW is the worst game on the market imho. EVE is in difference to WoW and some other games, a game requiring more patience and more intelligence. I got tired of playing mmorpgs with kids in puberty and l33t from playing SWG.
Also, EVE have content! All you have to do is find out what you want to do and then do it. The content is your own minds limitation.

Indeed there was, more of a review than an actual ad, but from what I recall it was a half way decent one. About a year or so back now I believe.

Edited by: Galk on 20/02/2007 17:36:41 Simple answer to this one.
As long as there's not a boxed product on the shelf, a tv advertisement is near worthless.
If it's a digital download only, then ccp are allways better off channeling megre amounts to gamming sites, with the rule 'teh' universe message appealing to hardcore gamers, and ofc rigging online polls in their favour in an attempt to grab in the casual floaters looking for something different, or jacked off with there current game.
Since somebody mentioned wow (putting your personal preferences of the game you play currently aside for one moment) Realy you couldn't fail to be impressed with there tv advertising campain leading up to christmas, primetime, every channel.. must have cost them a fortune..... comparing it to eve (pointless i know.. given what i just said beforehand) that game grows 5 times in subscriber numbers of what we have here in that time.
Must have had some effect, but like iv'e said before and touched on it here.... everything was/is in place to support that advertising...
Box on shelf... offical game guide on shelf... timecard boxes on shelf... ect ect...
A tv add for eve without any of that in place to grab your consumer that walks into the likes of pc world and haves it shoved into their face for a second time of asking would be wasted money.

I'm not sure which is more amusing; your certainty that CCP has "tons" of money, or that television advertising a couple of times a week (in various countries no less) would only cost a "little."
