I know that no one ever gives out their secret on trading or else everyone else would scoop it up, but I have a question that hopefully can be answered.
I have two accounts and have them both on at the same time located in different regions. I did a search for mineral X with both and noted the sell and buy price for both regions. I was able to buy mineral X in region 1 and haul it just 3 jumps into region 2 for an 11% mark up. Is this worth the time to buy the mineral from the market and haul it to sell at someone else's buy order for that percentage?
I know most of you will say it's up to me if that is worth it, but I wanted to get a feel for how others would view this type of route. I have one character capable of flying a freighter, just haven't saved up the isk to buy one yet, so only hauling in regular industrial thus limited to cargo space.
In summary, I really just started into the trading aspect of the game and wondered if I am doing this the right way or if I am doomed to making petty isk and not even playing in the same game as everyone else.
If it matters, I have about 40 million isk I could invest into the market in order to establish buy orders etc...

your right it does depend on you...
That said, if its trit, pyre or mex, and your not doing it in a freighter, then 11% while a decent profit doesnt add up to very much.
Of course we all have to start somewhere. If you continue this, make sure to maximize your profits, use gsc, use higher end expanders. Aim for a transport, with rigs and t2 expanders, you can get +45,000m¦ into a transport. Then begin the long road of saving up for that freighter if your still inclined. --

Ok, if I go the transport route, what rigs are you referring about? I checked the ships out that I can buy, I trained up Amarr so it's looking like I will buy a Impel.
Thanks for the replies,

Cargohold Optimisation rigs, give 15% extra cargo space for the tech1 version and 20% for the tech2

Awesome, thanks.
Now, quick question, I bought an Impel and this thing takes forever to align and go into warp. Is this normal for transport ships?
If not normal, what skills do I need to invest in to fly this baby better, i.e. faster warps, faster aligning etc...???

As a fellow impel pilot yes she can be a bit slow to align to warp. Especially if you dont have the following skills maxed out;
Spaceship Command (+2% to agility per lvl) Evasive Manuvering (+5% to agility per lvl) Navigation (+5% to top speed, doesnt directly help aligning, but its nice to have)
Until you get those agility skill to level 5, consider not putting a 7th expander in, and go with a i-stab or nano in that slot. Yes it lessens your cargo capacity, but being able to align that much faster can mean more round trips faster.
Btw your going to want all those skills at lvl 5, to make your life in a freighter easier too. --

I tend to carry a set of nanos AND a set of expanders when running around in my iteron V. This is VERY helpful with I am running a little empty. Just swap out an expander for a nano and go. An iteron V with 5 nanos behaves almost like a frigate :)

I don't understand why people have issues with how slow the transports are.
There's a hard-limit maximum for the time to warp.
Simply fit a 10MN Afterburner on your ship.
Then Warp to Zero to the gate, and hit one cycle on the AB. Toggle it on, and then immediately turn it off.
For the 10 seconds it is on, you accelerate pretty fast.
Then when your maximum speed from the AB drops back down, you are now at warp speed and zoom off you go.

Edited by: Ted Crilly on 21/02/2007 21:01:04 We all start small m8, I remember trading zyd in a frig around the regions for small profits, all builds up in the end though.
Now I trade in a freighter and sometimes its hard to make the journey worthwhile, for example yesterday i bought 7 mill isogen in rens and sold it in jita, profit was about 28 mill but i had to shell out near 700mill to buy it in the first place.
A good earner is putting up buy orders for middle minerals (Iso and Nocx) and making them region wide, at the end of the week fly around and collect it all and sell it on (Lowsec ganks are a possibility so be careful)
PS Freighter for hire 500k/jump.
