I just submitted a bug report, fully documented, but wanted to post here, too, to see a) if anyone else is having similar problems and/or b) to make sure anyone using ATI graphics cards (my condolences) understands that there might be problems with the new Catalyst 7.2 drivers.
I am using an old Hercules 3-D Prophet 9800 128DDR AGP 8x card (yes, I know) and I started getting those annoying Blue Screen Stop Errors again yesterday (undocking Auvergne and arriving Auvergne-Dodixie gate (eventually, after 2 relog attempts). Before compiling my bug report, I checked and sure enough, ATI/AMD had updated (AGAIN) the Catalyst drivers. Checked the readme, but they never mention anything CCP/Eve-related. Understand that I had updated to Catalyst 7.1 less than 2 weeks ago.
Now I get a seriously ugly problem with 3D shading (I believe)...
ugly graphics (the funny geometric shapes move and dance, which is why I think this is shading-related).
Sigh. Can pull up the vid options but can't see/adjust them. Guess it's time to reinstall again.
Cheers, Eti

Edited by: Alex Marche on 22/02/2007 10:33:24 Don't quote me on this but it could be a memory problem... maybe your card is on its last legs?
Does it do it on any other games?
I would also suggest dropping the card drivers back to 7.1 and see if the problem persists. :)

Try turning off Catalyst A.I., that option did similar things on my vista install. Worked fine when I turned it off.

They work fine for me (with AI on high). Try reinstalling the latest version of DX (October release). Sometimes it fixes issues like these (often bought on by some corrupt MS update). --- Cache Clearer |

I seem to remember my 9700Pro doing something similar, shortly before the magic blue smoke got out and it ceased to function.

Edited by: Etienne Merten on 22/02/2007 20:44:36 Edited by: Etienne Merten on 22/02/2007 20:39:50 1. Does not affect other games. 2. The 7.2 cat drivers specifically mention my card as being supported. 3. Rollback to 7.1 works fine, except that then I get the Blue Screen STOP Errors again...which I hadn't been getting since the first revelations releases. 4. I tried resetting to factory defaults, tried turning off AI, putting it on low and on high (the latter being my previous standard setting)...tried every option in the cat menues...nothing worked. 5. Tried AMD/ATI support...got canned response that the card had a hardware failure (which doesn't explain why it works with 7.1 drivers), so I wrote back and said, nice try, now give me a live person with a brain to discuss this... 6. Haven't tried reinstalling directx again...will try it (Dec '06 release...12/13/06 to be exact).
EDIT: All DxDIAG tests ran fine, by the way...so I doubt my card is "fried."
EDIT#2: Actually, latest DirectX distribution is dated 2 February 2007, and I had it already... :-)
