Same happening to me, eve hangs at splash screen, larger blank window opens behind it.
Clearing the cache has not worked. ---------------- There are no bugs just locked threads |

After I tried to auto-patch I got an error. Now I can't load up the app at all. I tried to re-install (no request for key) then applied 934-1352 patch...still nothing.
I believe that is it for me. I have been on rarely lately....now forget it.

Same.
Data: P3 866 MHZ w/ 512 ram Win Me Nvidia MX 420 w/ 64mb DSL via MS networking (which obviously works) A'97 builtin sound -- hardware accel turned off (unless the patch turned it back on)
I manually patched.

I used to have the same problem with other games from time to time till I upgraded my video card and got a 128 now everything runs great. I think they need to update the requirements to read 128 megs Kein Mehrheit F³r Die Mitleid |

Go into the folder and change the properties for the Eve.exe file to make it compatible with windows 98. You will have to do this after any patch is applied because it replaces your Eve.exe file.
This works for me, maybe it can help you guys too. I use XP by the way if thats what you had problems on.

I had same thing here....
After looking in the Eve directories, I found the logs directory full of error files. I cleaned it, restarted the game. After killing the process 1 min after the freeze, I looked into the logs directory i found a huge txt file "#errors b1352 2003.12.17 05.53.19.txt" Inside the was tons of error messages. In fact it was the same repeated again and again.
File created 2003.12.17 05:53:19 An exception has occurred. It has been logged in the log server as exception #1
658 : trinity.TriDevice: HRES:none(none) "unnamed", RotUrl:"tri:/dev", CurrentArea:"", CurrentShader:"", RotUrl "(null)", : There is no D3D device available
659 : trinity.TriDevice: HRES:none(none) "unnamed", RotUrl:"tri:/dev", CurrentArea:"", CurrentShader:"", RotUrl "(null)", : There is no D3D device available
660 : trinity.TriDevice: HRES:none(none) "unnamed", RotUrl:"tri:/dev", CurrentArea:"", CurrentShader:"", RotUrl "(null)", : There is no D3D device available
It seems there was a problem for the game to detect or launch the 3D parts of the Video card.
I have a GF 4 MX 440 with DX 9.0b and drivers Detonator 41.09 (minimum required for W98 are the 30.82 so I am fine)
After all this I installed the 44.03. I dont want to install lastest drivers because on an other computer, it seems they are slowing down the framerate of few games, and all the main stuff of those drivers are for the FX cards.
Now it runs fine with the 44.03. An other MMORPG (SWG) was recommending them, so I tought why not them...
If you arent affraid to mess with new drivers, try this solution. It may help.

thank you Skarn -- first useful thing I've seen on this subject.
alas, MX 420 64 mb cards don't appear to have new drivers [curses! EVE worked yesterday with version 1253.]
