IF the invention become the only way to get t2 imo will be easy farm : play & pay 3-4 months get your skills stop skills get 2nd & 3rd char get all standings up close the account and open at every 2-3 months to get datacore @@@@@@ @@@@@@ @@@@@@ @@@@@@

Problem is, datacores are much more easily obtained from exploration than research agents. Sure, it requires time to search for the complexes and then run them, but still, from a "farming" standpoint you're much better off doing that than an army of research alts.
This turns research agents into something just a bit less than useless, to be honest. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Odd, the way I see it the datacores from the alts would be free, no effort, no work, no cost additionally nothing stops you from also doing exploration with your main and getting the best of two worlds... but then this may be my brains fault, it sometimes deludes me into thinking stuff like this...

You need a couple of months of training and a good deal of mission grinding to get access to those agents in the first place, and if you don't login to them to do the "daily mission", you only get half the RPs.
Doing the missions every day is a bit less than FIVE datacores per MONTH per agent, assuming you already have L5 in the corresponding science, excellent social skills and only use the best agents... or about 28 datacores per month with L5 research project management and working with the best 2 agents from each corp in a certain faction and with maxed-out science skills.
Not doing any missions and using only 5 agents (L4 RPManagement) of a certain corp with L4 in the corresponding sciences should only net you about 7 datacores per month on average (so barely above one datacore per month per agent).
Hardly profitable, I would say. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Edited by: Vansard on 23/02/2007 10:08:18 The key is allowing players to specialize in invention and gain a huge benefits from this specialization. This way ccp could create something between an imperfect competition and an oligopoly for t2 bpc/production. This would allow to make t2 popular but not as popular as t1.
The specialization should be divided into two category: skills & gameplay involvment. Here is a sample & quickly put up list - but it could be made much more interesting is some designer would work on the subject.
skills: - boosting invention probability (in specific fields) - reducing resource usage - boosting invention effects me, pe, nof copies (different skills)
gameplay: - make these skills books accessible only thru reasearch missions (it can be similar to lp in some way, so the more you play the more you get) - other bonuses from research agent missions (invention components, t1 bpc, access to laboratories or copying facilities)
The only way to not make t2 an alt game is to cover both skill specialization and gameplay involvment. Non specialist, will have also the possibility to do take part of it, but would not be very uneffective.
