I've always wondered why we show as our names in space. Why would we set our transponders to send our name? Why not the ship name? Make the ship names show in space and our player names show in mails, stations and in player to player interaction, but in space, the ship name should be the only thing we "broadcast."
Maybe make it so when we unpackage a ship, it gets named permanently and that's what is seen. Maybe we could pay to alter the transponders or something. This would allow fleet commanders the ability to fly openly.

Why nto ship name sinstead of player names? Simple becaus ethen fleets woudl all name their ships the same. Say like 666 and imagine the FC. Okay people target 666. The reply is 'wich one?' So no.

yes it sux to have pilot names in the overview
changing it to show ship names seems that it wont solve the problem
an alternative must be found though

Pick seven and fire.
Focus Fire is only so effective. _________________________ ~Thor Xian, Material Defender

Name box, then a Registry number that is unique to the ship once it is unpackaged the first time. The number persists through death (cant be used again). Let the name be entered twice to be permanent (cant undock without a permanent name and cant use overview object names in ship names; ie no Asteroid (Veldspar))
For example, my Tempest in the overview would look like:
Arch Reaver MBS-74198 (MBS stands for Minmatar Battleship)
Introduce these tags:
TN - Titan SC - Supercarrier/Mothership JN - Juggernaut DN - Dreadnought LC - Light Carrier BS - Battleship FR - Freighter BC - Battlecruiser CR - Cruiser DD - Destroyer FF - Frigate SS - Shuttle IL - Industrial CT - Control Tower
So a Thorax would be GCR, a Retribution would be AFF, a Phoenix would be a CDN, and so on.
The entire purpose of the above is to keep registry numbers manageable.
Missed something Im sure, but tech 1 and tech 2 would be treated the same, since its hull class based. _________________________ ~Thor Xian, Material Defender

And people who don't want to put their names on the empires (CONCORD maybe) registry in 0.0, and will the serpentis get a number for their ships? Why would the Serpentis enforce such undocking limit in their stations? -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! Flying Vexor and Ishkur, Myrmidon was too slow, got ganked by 3 BC and a Megathron...

Because your starship needs a registry to communicate through interstellar channels. _________________________ ~Thor Xian, Material Defender

There's more to EvE than fleet battles, and it would suck to make the game so impersonal by taking away names.
