Its seems that CCP is reacting to the years of moaning and are on the verge of giving up the BPO lottery.
I think this is a great shame.
The lottery was one of two aspects of the game which allowed non-power gamers to get a foothold in the game and thus differentiated itself from other games on the market. The other being skill training offline.
Moving away from a lottery will lead to a method where only those with cash in their hands already or large amounts of game time will be able to reap the rewards of new tech.
What the lottery does is to provide diversity to the game. There are many casual gamers (if that is possible with Eve) who have been able to become economic and political forces through their luck and planning with the lottery.
Not every economic power should be those that can play half the day.
I have nothing against rewarding those who do have so much free time and of course there are many alternative ways to earn piles of ISK.
But, the BPO lottery was the ONLY method in Eve by which a non-hardcore player could really make a difference without having to spend all their time grinding.
I am a T2 lottery winner having played since day one and done research since the first day it was available, so yes, I am bound to be biased. I have a few nice prints but I am not one of the super rich.
What this means is that I am in the position to help out my corp and alliance when needed and concentrate on politics and fighting rather than grinding for ISK. I have loved playing eve, battling against great odds and being part of a roleplay group with a foothold in 0.0.
I would hate to think that others would not get the chance to enjoy my kind of luck in the future.
Diversity ftw.

Edited by: Lorimer on 24/02/2007 09:21:24 Agreed
The lottery is the only way a casual gamer can compete in isk terms with those who play 24/7
The 6-12 months of mission grinding / training required to even stand a chance in the lottery balances the reward
As things are looking at the moment T2/3 production is going to require major mission grinding in empire ...... bl**dy fantastic :/
The great thing about the lottery system is that after you have spend the time getting your standing up / training science you could actually do something else ......
Checking the standing on some of the people that have posted in other threads on this topic ..... a large number seem to be from people who have not / can't be bothered putting in the significant amount on time required under the current rules

Edited by: James Britanicus on 24/02/2007 09:43:27 I would suggest that all t3 BPO's be made into BPC's and awarded by research agents the same as mission agents or the player can choose to hold out and hang onto their RP's int he hopes that they will win a t2 BPO. This seems the only reasonably fair way to deal with the question.
So the options to the research mission player are:
1) Spend the rp's on datacores and try for invention 2) Spend the Rp's on t3 BPC's 3) Save the RP's and hope for a t2 BPO drop.
This in turn would make the game of research angent missioning more realistic and valuable.
Could you also give consideration to makeing more mission availible to Research agents that may reward with drops etc.

Agreed
if you win the lottery you don't have to sell it for mega cash - in fact lots of T2 BPO's are not the i-win button that most people think.
I know a few people that managed to get lucky and have enjoyed themselves more as a result.

I find myself broadly agreeing with the Minmatar terrorist.
My suggestion would be to keep the lottery going until T3 comes out, and then make T2 BPOs and BPCs vastly more common. T3 BPOs could then be released through the lottery.

The lottery method was probably the only way to stop the most powerful groups/most time-rich players from getting 99% of the bpos.
The problem with the lottery is that BPOs are awarded rather than BPCs.
If a lottery win gave you a bpc with enough runs to build continuously for 1 month, far more people would get a chance to be involved in the t2 market.
As it stands now, once the current seeding of bpos finishes, then you KNOW you have no chance.
Dispiriting to say the least.

Actually, I half aggree half disagree with the quoted post (o> chief)...
And 100% agree with the post. 100%. A lottery that gives BCS's would be perfect.
TBH even better I wouldn't even make it a chance: Every XXX RP's give you a blueprint copy.

/signed. I totally agree, keep the lottery but make it long run BPC's, that way more people get a chance at winning + theres still a chance for those of us that just cant grind 23hrs a day (hey at least youve created another market for those chinese farmers) .
Also, what happens to everyone that already has a T2 BPO?
