I don't know about everyone else , but i am tired of seeing everyone with the same exact looking ship as i do. I think we should be able to paint our ships and add graphics to them. Maybe I am just crazy but tell me what you think

Think of loading all of those seperate paint schemes and keeping them updated for each client. Massive server load. ---------

be nice if we could at least swap color schemes, doesn't have to be wild graphics or paint jobs - look at the retribution vs punisher, basically it just has some "zones" on its skin painted red. I'd be happy if we could select say a primary "base" color, and a secondary "detail" color.
I'm sure it would eat up extra resources, but not only would it let us individualize our ships (if im gonna spend hourse staring at the ship on screen i want it to be a little different) but it would be nice for corps and alliances to come up with "official" color schemes, so even if they fly all different ship classes and races they have a similar look.
of course then the wars start over two groups wanting the same "official" paint job.

Do it like they do it with the corp logos; each ship has a fixed set of options which can be combined to vary the look of the ship.
That way rather than transferring the whole texture, one simply has to transfer the ids of the textures to load.
They could also be one of the things which are switched off with the effects and such. --------------------

Edited by: Zaiyo Modi on 24/02/2007 22:06:53 How about making a tinting map for ships. All maps would be unique, in the sense that a checkerboard pattern would be made for each ship. Then somehow one could edit the color data for each block in the checkerboard pattern with different colors.
E.g tinting half of the checkerboard pattern black and the other side white would create a kind of white nosed ship or something.
The point is to avoid image textures and change color/tinting in a hopefully simple way.

Hell, it would just be cool to edit your own ship colors, you being the only one who can see them. Client side deal. |

Everyone would just end up painting their ships black. Maybe a few would use their corp color scheme, but very few. DAoC allowed you to dye gear/armor and most PvPers were running around in all black...pointless.

Probably not. Depending on how they implemented it, it could be pretty minimal server load. Client side... that's another story.

QFT.
We don't need a paintbrush, just some simple options. Helps make your ship seem "yours".

i think the server stress wouldnt be worth it. it is essentially a nice idea however. i've heard a rumor that t3 ships will be the same as t1, cept you can put your corps logo on them...apparently....could be bullsh*t, but i dont think anyone would say something on these forums unless they knew it to be 100% true ------------

Haha he made a funny sarcastic remark about nothing being fact on the forums unless it has a little yellow box around it.
altho this has been proven to be untrue on several occasions
On topic: Well i think it could make a great isk sink. Say you get to choose one paint scheme when you first start and all your ships would be based on that (like an above poster says that you chose a primary base and secondary color/s. think customization in halo) And then if you wanted to change that it would take some amount of isk.

Yeah, as much as people can love it, I don't think it would increase server performance, and atm 300 people warp to another 300, I don't think they actually care about the nice the logo you have on your hull is.
