Is this a valid approach, to just produce for example a Tier 3 product from its Tier 2 input materials, means, I buy and import the Tier 2 stuff and export the Tier 3 thingy? Any planet would fit for that, correct?

P3 can be made on any planet - requires an advanced processor. Problem is you require 20 or 30 units of P2 to make 3 units of P3 so you need to watch your margins carefully - I'm not sure it's viable if you are paying much in import/export taxes. I build my P3 into high demand stuff like T2 drones which significantly improves margins and are a lot easier to ship. |

Caveat emptor, work in progress, but this should help answer some of your questions. Select your hub, set your tax rate, and it should tell you what to build for max profit. At some point I really need to rework it for hourly profit, but at least it returns what to build at this point. |

That's my plan, I want to expand my T2 manufacturing chain to include some of the high value PI stuff for more profit. Vertical integration is key in the times of high taxes and fees.
Thanks Zhilia for the sheet, will check it out. PI is a complete different animal, have to read a lot ...

You will be buying stuff in millions so getting your raw materials through buy orders makes difference.

Depends ... on price differences across regions, spreads and volume supplied/required.

You can make ISK doing this, but you have to do your math and watch the market carefully as prices change.
T3 materials very often sell for less than the cost of the T2 components. Make sure you factor all the costs when you do the math. Broker fees and sales taxes on the buy orders for the T2, import costs as you move T2 on to planet, exports cost as you move T3 off planet and sales tax when you sell T3.
I would not buy more than 3-4 days of material at a time, if the market swings into a loss you don't want to get stuck on a big stack of raw material. You need to be prepared to change products with the market. It might be more work than it's worth, unless you find big margins. I did a quick check and it looks like there is at least one currently that would work, as for how long only the market knows... |

In your case (T2 construction) - take a close look on robotics and guidance systems, depending what you are building and consider doing P0->P3 instead. Makes logistics far easier. |

With my setup I was creating robotics from P2 exported to 77000 ISK each (robotics market 98000 at that time). The prices for P2 went up since then, so this is not viable anymore. The problem with P0->P3 is the low throughput, the setup effort and import taxes if your are not owning the POCOs. Also other setups seem to be more efficient right now, trading different output for what you need.
