For some reason eve is locking up since downloading the 1352 patch. Watched it in task manager and for some reason its memory requirements go up in 4 meg (roughly) intervals, can anyone help?!?

Since 1352 (Castor) i cant get past splash screen, screen locks up with white background - spashscreen ontop.
I have the recommended video drivers, sound to null and still doesnt work.
Anyone have a sure fire fix/workaround? polaris? devs? (i expect i am in for a long wait for this problem to be fixed in a patch)

have same lockup at splash screen after manually patching. Cleared cache -- no help. Cache has not regenerated, which suggests either that I have not actually contacted the server, or that the server is not sending out the required files/instructions.
Data: P3 866 MHz w/ 512 ram Windows Me
Nvidia GeForce MX 420 w/ 64 mb AC'97 sound -- hardware set to "off"
no firewall -- DSL modem thru wired router to 100 bps NIC (obviously working ok) MicroSoft Networking (also working ok)

Edited by: Eleanor Scurvato on 17/12/2003 15:26:31 Phew, glad its not just me then, everything worked fine yesterday before the patch
In my case I retrieved the error below from an error file that was created. I think the memory leak/issue is related to the error.txt file thats created, endlessly growing.
659 : trinity.TriDevice: HRES:none(none) "unnamed", RotUrl:"tri:/dev", CurrentArea:"", CurrentShader:"", RotUrl "(null)", : There is no D3D device available 658 : triui.UIWindow: Cannot prepare cursor, no D3DDevice
Mine was at 75Mb, and thats big for a text file Polaris, Hellmar, please respond IMTC Elite Stilletto Interceptor

Guys what happens if you totally disable the onboard sound, Or if you have XP/W2K try to run in comaptible mode this might help.

Tried all I can think of to get into Eve. I get to the first load up screen a white border then appears and computer locks up. Pressing ctrl alt del x2 is only way to get out. Since logging off yesterday before the patch upgrade that is the closest to loggin in I get and am now gettin a bit frustrated. Can any one suggest anything to help? |

reinstalling from downloaded files [without the CD] has failed, and this solved the problem that similarly occurred with version 1238. I also repaired all o/s problems that Norton could find and reinstalled on a just cleaned up hard disk.
Rechecked -- I do have audio hardware acceleration turned off. Even adding "audio=0" to my prefs.ini file does not solve this.
Like prior person, I was working fine yesterday before the 1352 patch. I manually patched from 1253 to 1352.

Same problem here. The games halts right after the first screen. A nice white background is all I get. I've downloaded the latest drivers for my graphics card and my audio. Still nothing.... It kind of freaks me out that EVERY time there's a new patch I have to spend hours updating my computer and searching for bugs. I'm not a programmer and only want to play the game. One unhappy customer over here.

I am a victim of the lovely splash screen with the white border too. Thats as far as I have gotten since the update. Uninstalled EVE last night, downloaded the full install, re-installed it. Same result. I guess when I get home from work, I will have to download a bunch of driver updates. I hate doing that when everything I have had works so well up until yesterday.
Sadly, I called my CEO to log on and start a skill for me. Now he knows how much embezzling I have done.

Same thing happening to me. I was working perfectly fine before the 1352 patch, and today it can't find a D3D device to render to either. Unfortunately my graphics drivers are the latest available from HP (ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, Catalyst doesn't install). I have disabled sound, and tried various levels of degradation of graphics capabilities. Any ideas?

Edited by: Talisa on 18/12/2003 06:55:17 I have had similar problems since the 1352 patch, howver ultimately mine ends up on the desktop before char selection.
The only work around I foudn to my problem was to delete the entire contents of the cache folder. It then went straight in without problem. The biggest problem with this is that all the settings are default and you have to start again.
Not ideal, certainly not happy, but it did get me in. Also, before anyone flames me, I would like to add that I deleted the three machXXXX files as suggested and it made no difference at all. I physically had to delete the entire contents of the cache folder.

ok guys i am going to try to update my video drivers from (30.82 which is recommended by ccp, go figure) to a newer one, i will let you know what version it is and the result after.(my video card is a geforce 2 mx440).
If everyone could please list their computer information (particularly video card and drivers versions) and working/not working status we may be able to get some idea of a suitable setup that will work.
Please if you read this post because you have the same problem, and get afterward get it working, please tell us more info about the drivers etc you used, it will help a lot i think.

REF: lock at splash-screen (white background)
OK i have got it to work by upgrading my video drivers. Here are the details: -downloaded nVidia detonator drivers (45.23) from http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_45.23 and installed them.
I did not try the latest drivers but they may work as well.
Another bit of info, i dont know if it related, I had previously installed the recommended drivers (30.82) over (45.23) to try to fix a different problem (didnt fix it by the way), maybe there was some conflict between remnants of the 45.23 drivers and the 30.82. I came across a website that has software to clean these things up, maybe someone will find it useful http://download.guru3d.com/
Going by some similar threads, drivers may not fix this problem for everyone so please still list your setups, hopefully it will help people who are having trouble getting the game to work.

I unfortunately have te same problem. I am using the Intel onboard exreme graphics chipset & have the latest drivers available. CCP refuses to reply telling me only that I need to update my drivers. Heh I love it. If I cannot get on I guess I will have to cancel my 2 accounts. That is going to suck

Windows Me & 98 users with Nvidia cards need the 5304 drivers. Neither the 3082 nor the 4532 drivers will work any more for you.
ATI card users apparently have a similar problem for some cards, but I don't know which o/ses are affected or which cards.
Please read the error report files in your CCP/EVE/log folder -- anything like "no D3D detected" or similar wording means EVE dislikes your video driver.
