I've been told that failing missions with corps that have poor standing with npc pirate corps will will increase your standing with those pirate corps. Is this true? I had -1.73 sansha faction with diplomacy 5 and after a single storyline it jumped to -2.04, which is .04 below what I need for the lowest agent. Am I hosed with this corp?

Failing missions will only lower your standing towards the corp of the agent that gave you the mission (and toward the agent), but won't raise your "opposite" standings ...
If you're below -2.0 with a "pirate" corp, I fear that it's too late ...
I think that it's the Criminal Connections skill that counts for them, not the Diplomacy one, but since my "pirate" standings are well below -5.0, I cannot really check (and I won't go out there in 0.0 to work for them, anyway).

Diplomacy continued to increase my standing with the pirate corps as I trained it. Thanks for the quick response. Does anyone else know a way?

Doing storylines for Blood Raiders or Guristas if you can. If not possible then there is no way.

Wow that really sucks. My standing with gurista and bloodraiders are even worse. I spent over a week training diplomacy so I wouldn't lose my ability to do missions for pirates in the future if I chose too. Then 1 mission later I lose standing faster than I ever have before and now I'm hosed =(

I don't know if this is how it is (or even if it used to be), but I think I heard somewhere that you could get around this by joining a PC corp with good enough standings towards the pirates. For example a two or three man corp (or alts) that ran missions for the pirates. The guy said that the corp standings would even out to allow you to run missions for the group you have negative standings from. Anybody know if this works for sure? |

Sadly, dont think thats possible. IIRC, you (as a character) need all of faction/corp/personal standings to be -2 or better to get a mission from agent. Standings of your corp dont count for missions.

Criminal Connections is indeed the skill you are looking for, failing missions gives no benefits, only drawbacks as it costs standing with the corporation the mission originated from. Otherwise it would be REALLY easy to get pirate standing in empire.
Just accepting and cancelling missions and never even leaving the station, slowly moving down the list of agents untill you're left with the lvl 1, quality -20 agent.
Personally... I am glad it doesn't work like that.

Yes, failing empire storyline missions does increase your standing with pirate factions. I failed one and dropped 0.114% for the empire, but gained 0.116% for the pirate faction.
The numbers are approximate, as i can't remember the excat numbers.

There are a few situations you may need to work around to get back to being able to mission for pirate NPC corps. 1) Standing with the corp itself below -5.0. In this case you're SOL 2) Standing with the corp between -5.0 and -2.0. Some level of Diplomacy will help you. 3) Standing with faction too low (below -2.0 after Diplomacy) Depends on the priate faction. The Thukkers, Angels, Serpentis, & The Syndicate work together. If you can mission for any of them then storylines for them will increase your standing with the others. The other "alliance" of pirate corps is Sanshas, Raiders, & The other one (sorry - extended DT doesn't help my memory). If you have bad standing with all of those factions then your only option is to get storyline missions for their enemies and deliberately fail them. This works. Note that it only works with storyline missions - they are the only way to increase faction standing and they affect everyone on the targetted faction's "Liked by" and "Disliked by" lists. The amount of difference it makes depends on the value in that field.
