All the patch notes have done is confuse me. I've talked to my agents (who I dont do missions for) and see nothing about "research" anywhere. Can someone please explain HOW this deal works in simple terms? How do I get a research agent? Do I have to do a ton of regular missions to get one? (unacceptable). Doesn't my maxed out science skills count for anything? Are they useful?
I'm totally confused about this and completely frustrated trying to figure out what is what. I'm lost.

Try looking in your charactersheet, under standings, likes me (or something like that). Scroll to the bottom and show info on those agent names until you see one whose division is Research or R&D. If you can't find any there you need to search the corps that have that division for an agent that you can then go talk to. You can see what corps have R&D divisions at eve-online.com/corporations.

calladen, i was as confused as you until I found the relevent info in a search I did in the help. Type in R&D agent and one of the updated agent FAQ's explain that you need to do normal agent mission to get the advanced tech skills. Once you have the skills to a level that are the same as the research agent you want to work for, you should be able to work for them.
Personally, I am massively ****ed off because I really don't want to a bucketload of missions to get a skill so I can do more agent missions in the hope that i *might* get a tech lvl 2 bp.

Then don't do missions for the "standard" agents, buy the skills neaded to work with reseach agents from thous who do normal agent missions... |

my gripe is as a scientist I shouldn't have to work for a corp's courier services hauling garbage to learn a skill which will then allow me to do research.
Why can't we do missions for R&D agents to get the skills in the first place? Surely the best place to learn advanced science is from a scientist? Or am I missing the point entirely? ----------- "Remember people: Omber is the biggest evil ever created, DO NOT let it get to you!" Waagaa Ktlehr, BDCI

Sorry, but then DON'T... you can buy the skills of the market from people who will do the missions but not the research. Or if you're in a (non-one member) Corp, there's bound to be someone who does like to do Agent missions and will provide you with the skills you need.
Finally it's specialization in Eve instead of everyone being able to do all.

Thanks for the replies I'll check out the help option. Like many we hoped to be able to have a dedicated "scientist" who could really specialize. I don't feel everyone should be able to jump on the T2 backwagon like this. I mean if someone is dedicated to combat or mining THAT should be their specialty. EVE has totally abandoned SCIENCE as a career path.

Strange, every scientist I have met who is studying for a phd or beyond is treated worse than an agent runner by their bosses or professors so why should scientists get an easy life in Eve

One more question. Does anyone have any idea how many agent missions someone would have to do to get into position to get the skills to get an R&D agent?
(I assume the skillpack is an "agent reward" right???).
Thanks,
