Topic kind of says it all. I'm wondering how much it helps to be able to target more than 7 targets (2 + Targeting V). ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standard Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |

Only useful for capital ships afaik.
I have it trained to lvl 3 and can still only target 7 targets with my Domi...
You can't go past the maximum targetable for your ship unless you use some sort of targeting computer (auto targeter?)

Yeah, I'm aware. I thought it was the passive targeting module (could be wrong) that increases your max.
But anyways, my point is: how does it help you? I guess I could form a theory on it being useful for capital ships, as from what I hear their targeting speed is horrendous, but... is that it? I don't fly capital ships. ----- Griffin -- 100,000 ISK ECM - Multispectral Jammer Is -- 20,000 ISK Standard Missile Launcher Is -- 10,000 ISK War target sobbing over losing a fight in his T2 fitted Battleship -- priceless |

Logistics can target up to 10 targets, which is the hightest on non-capital ships, so Multitasking to lvl 3 is all that is needed. ----------------------------------------------- My Band's new Demo: Linkage to Site |

Signal amplifier II gives you +1 target in addition to various other benefits. Auto targeter II gives you +4 targets but is pretty buggy from what I heard.

combat recon ships can lock 10 as well, force recon 7 though i am not really sure what you'd need 10 locked targets fo :s -Though I fly through the Valley of Death... I shall fear no evil. For I am at 80,000 feet and climbing. ~At the entrance to the old SR-71 operating base Kadena, Okinawa |

Seems useful for looting ships/salvage ships.
Also it seems nice if you're fighting easier npc's.
I personally hate it when I am on an alt and can only target 4-5 ships... I have 6 on my main but am training to get it to 7 right now.

Don't forget your ship is also limiting the amount of targets you can have. You can add an autotargeter for 2 extra targets but you loose damage output too.

If you fly a logistics cruiser its really nice to target your whole gang, so that when someone needs a shield rep or energy transfer you can hit them asap.

Auto Targeting System II gives +4 to max targets... Just don't turn it on, or you'll see many strange things being locked. /* None of this is anyone's opinion. Not even my own.

Gee....what a useful mod.
Used to use one while in Privateers, that plus a TII sensor booster had me shooting everything. I was only needing my Fkeys. Fantastic stuff.
But only worked like a third of the time. = ( --

That's what occifer smartbombs are for...
And as a side note, just having the auto targeter on your ship gives a max targets bonus. Activating the mod causes odd things to become automagically locked. /* None of this is anyone's opinion. Not even my own.

How many targets can Capital ships target? In the item database it doesn't look like more than 7 or so.

1) Mission Running - Ships target you, you auto lock them all back and don't have to worry about manual targeting, makes things faster.
2) PvP - If you lock multiple ships you have a quicker time to change target as a primary is called. Lets you keep track of ships. Say you only target 2-3 ships for primary calling. If you have auto-target of more, then you will be able to auto-lock anybody who is then locking you so you know who is planning to attack you. Unless they have a passive lock sensor(whatever its called) of course.

Most battlecruisers, and I think some destroyers, can lock 8 targets - so multitasking at least at 1 can be useful. For the time it takes, once having spent the isk you might as well learn it to 3.
As others have said, logistics ships can lock 10, which means you need MT 3 for them, really, but no higher - there is always something more important to train than a skill that won't do anything.
