I was fitting out a domi to use specifically for ratting in the drone regions and was looking for some comments/advice on my setup. Note: I am not looking to use weapons in highs because I do not want to worry about ammo or have it take up space in cargo when looting. I want it to be able to go nonstop without use of consumables, hence heavy drones drones for damage, NOS to fuel the tank, and tractors/salvagers to loot while killing the next rat.
Highs: 3x Heavy Dim NOS 2x Salvager 1x Tractor Beam
Meds: 1x MWD 1x Omnidirectional Tracking Link 3x Cap Recharger II
Lows: 1x LAR II 1x MAR II 1x Therm Hard II 1x Explo Hard II 1x Kin Hard II 1x Damage control II 1x 1600mm plate
Drones: Set of hammerhead IIs and a bunch of ogres
Rigs: Havent decided yet, possibly playing it safe with cap recharge rigs.
I am not sure of the optimal setup to tank the drone rats, so any input on lows or rig suggestions would be well recieved :) I was thinking of switching the 1600mm plate with a EANM II or another hardener, but I was advised to go with the plate with the one person I asked.

You don't realistically lose that many ogres in a single run (before you can go to base to add some more), why not throw some sentries in there? And you might as well have some hobgoblins/warriors, a whole set takes as much as a single heavy/sentry, and you never know when you'll need some small and insanely fast drones. Just seems to me that by going with only a set of mediums and a ton of heavies you're losing out on the versatility that makes the domi so powerful.

Very true. I am planning on getting sentries in a few days when I finish up the necessary skills.
I will bring down a batch of sentries and lights next time I am in empire.
I was looking more for fitting suggestions than drones used to farm belts.

You really don't need to worry that much about tanking the drones. They are pretty weak. You probably never need to use more than one LAR II.
Myself I have 3x EAN II, good enough resists for rogue drones (and you dont need to remember to turn them on lol).
Also, might want to have one gun (or a Target Painter) if you want to get the aggro faster.
Cap recharge rigs is a bit overkill.

Highs: 3x Heavy Dim NOS 2x Salvager 1x Tractor Beam
Meds: 5 x cap chargers (best you can afford)
Lows: 2 x 1600mm plates 2x Therm Hard II 2x Explo Hard II 1x large armor repairer II
Drones: Set of hammerhead IIs and a bunch of ogres (spot on)
Rigs: 2 x cap recharge rigs (gives you a recahrge rate of 270 if your using fb-10 nominal cap chargers aswell in the mids) 1 x trimark armor pump with the rolled plates gives you 18k armor
thats my set up for the drone regions. Feel free to use it if you like.

What's wrong with you people using plates on a ratting ship?
Highs - who cares Mids - Cap Lows - Tank
A PvE tank sustains reps. A PvP tank tries to keep you in armor as long as possible so you kill the other guy before you die. PvP battles often don't give you enough time to cycle your reps. PvE = No Plates, PvP = Plates

Plates are for a reason... simply because its useful especially in the drone regions with hostiles popping in and out of system, i'd much rather miss our on one tankable slot and have a 18k armor than have a marginally better tank and no armor whatsoever...
Not to mention if pvp situation or op arises it saves alot of time having to warp to the darn POS's obviously, its more flexible for the situation in my opinion.

What kinds of damage do the drones do? Wouldn't a shield tanked Dominix work pretty good, or do they do a lot of EM and Thermal damage? I seem to recall they do mainly explosive damage, with small amounts of the other types.

I was told the same thing so i went in on my first encounter with explosive tank, but seeing as how the drone BS's are the only ones worth looting at all are all Domi replica's i've never seen them do explosive damage, The only ones that do that are the drone bombers which are only there 4 times out of ten if that. its mainly thermal and kinetic in my opinion, also some of the drone domi's are fast buggers. i think a sheild tanked domi would probably be fine.

Drones are pretty much EMP and Thermal...in otherwords a pain on shield tankers.
