----Somewhere in the Vale region----
A group of Vigilante's venture out into a nearby system in search of pirates.
Their search for Guristas begins and each belt is inspected in turn. Wing Commander Apothiz gives the command for a belt search to commence.
Squad members Brooksy2005, Nashwan Kaneda and Amen Ray power up their warp drives.
Squad member Brooksy2005 breaks formation to investigate one of the many asteroid belts, whilst warping between them admiring the large Veldspar roids and watching the hypnotic lights pass his ship cabin Brooksy feels a sudden urge to rest and his eyelids become heavy as the struggle to remain awake begins.
Brooksy gains control and warps out of his current belt, he arrives at belt VI - 6 to find it empty.
Darkness, Brooksy2005 finally loses the battle to stay awake. At the same time in an alternative universe a mans head thumps on to his keyboard as drool begins seeping from the corner of his mouth.
The remaining fleet voice concern that Brooksy has broken comms and has not checked in for over 10 minutes.
Assuming that he has safespotted for a more urgent task the fleet move out and take a quick BIO.
Minutes later Ensign Amen Rae reports a lone Zealot being attacked by Guristas Pirates next door. Assuming the worst the fleet races to the rescue.
Apothiz is the first to drop out of warp and is presented with the horrifying image of a POD....Brooksy's Pod.
They were too late, damn such a waste.
The Guristas were made to pay but those who were present will never forget that day.
Such a tragic loss, Brooksy2005 RIP.

At least they didn't pod him for the cold awakening... We had a fleet commander falling asleep suddenly while chasing people in low sec - We gangwarped him to a safe, kicked him from gang and preyed for a disconnect or that pirates around wouldn't probe him
He woke up next morning with ship intact starring at empty space and a empty gang...

Unfortunately we'd already kicked him from gang for being AWOL before we realized what had happened. After that Amen spent ages scanning for him, warping to all the belts, Apothiz was ringing his mobile... The entire rescue effort was like something from Thunderbirds.

Ahh .. remember back in the days when the Thorax was having 8 heavy drones in it.
I where out in a belt mining and my drones where out to protection, this was in high sec so no worries about players really.
Anyway ... after a while I fell asleep and when I woke up many hours after, the sky was filled with containers from my nice little drones that had been busy Had to spend like over an hour to clean up the sky, the 30 000 ore I had in a couple of containers where lost.
Twice that have happend, the other time I fell asleep in space my corp took time to guard my ship to the server rebooted (middle of the night a unscheduled reboot).

lol, yea i coudlnt believe it man, one minute i was searching the belts & the next i was waking up in a bloody pod.
I still had my TS headfones on & awoke to the sound of everyone laughing thier ass's off.
so there you have it, DO NOT go ratting if you are tired, it only takes a second to fall asleep & BANG 230mils worth of Zealot down the ****ter :(
At least it gave everyone a good laugh & i even laughed about it myself, also its good that ive got good friends as apothiz sold me a nice new zealot well cheap.

Edited by: Plutoinum on 26/02/2007 13:21:02 Reminds me of an evening, when we were protecting 28y- with a huge gate-camp against RAGoon, while others recharged poses.
I've been over 30 hours awake, sat in my tempest at sniper position and watched the bubbles. I tried my best to stay awake. Then I had the really clever idea to lie a bit on my bed with the headsat on my hears. I thought, if someone shouts 'Incoming !' I can go back to the computer in a few seconds. Well, I fell asleep. Suddenly I awaked, my blood pressure went up to the max and I jumped to the computer.
Saw my tempest still stitting on my sniper spot 170km from the gate, but it was alone in space, the gatecamp had been disbanded already 2 hours earlier. _______ I came, I read, I lol'ed. |

We all mourn the lose of Brooksy2005.
It is my opinion that all pilots should train up for RedBull tolerance and Sleep deprivation to at least level 4. This combination should give the pilot the abilty NOT to lose a ship to the Guristas.

Honestly, who hasn't fallen asleep while playing?
More than once I've taken a short trip to dozyland during missions, but haven't lost a ship because of it (yet). Was dangerously close once though... Had some cap troubles with my blasterthron, so I used to switch off my tank between spawns... Approached the next spawn from about 60km... Mmm, tired... Closed my eyes and leaned back in my chair while waiting. Woke up at just under half structure. The cap had ofc recharged nicely in the meantime, but I was down to about 10-20% structure before the tank kicked in and I got the situation under control. Somewhat shaken I finished the mission and promptly went to bed.
These days I try to refrain from undocking when I'm that tired, but I still do it from time to time...

So is this falling asleep on eve thing the new log in a bubble?
As long as your head hits the keyboard before you uncloak then all will be well and your ship will be safe.

I was mining on my indy alt one night in a retreiver, was really tired, went downstairs to get a glass of water stood there a minute, wandered back upstairs, turned the lights off and went to bed.
Woke up next morning and my pc was still whirring, hmmmm did I not turn it off? Oh crap, I didn't dock and log off either.
Client had disconnected, logged in to see my pod warping back to the belt.
Killmail said I'd been popped by two crappy Guristas frigs (was mining in a 0.8), only my Small Shield Booster II had died, someone must have got lucky collecting the 3 strip miners and two expanded cargohold II's from my wreck.

Before WTZ I zonked out in the middle of a long late night run through 0.0. The targeting sound woke me up. Fortunately it was just NPCs. A corpie zonked out in his Brutix outside a station in 0.0. I had his phone numbers, so I called his house and talked his wife through docking.

Nothing worse than falling asleep while guarding a gate on an op . . . except also snoring into a voice-activated TS session.
We had to warp the whole gang out, drop him at a safe spot, and then come all the way back.
