Edited by: Nealla Fraer on 26/02/2007 14:41:35 I have the equations for ML and PL. I know how they are tabulated. I know how to find the prefect levels for both. It's been discussed to death in this forum. But where do I draw the line? When is it just no longer worth researching the BPO anymore? Is it really worth taking my 150mm Railgun 1 BPO to ML491? I was thinking of stopping at the point when I no longer decrease waste by one unit per increase of a level, but that concieveblae allows for quiet a bit of leftover improvement. Where do you draw the line and why? Thanks.

This is a matter which varies with how you use the blueprint. As someone who does both BPC selling and building from originals, there are 3 criteria that might apply depending on how I will use the blueprint. Your time scales may vary, 6 months is my horizon for research planning except for capital stuff which I figure out a bit longer.
1. If it's a BPO purely for copying, it must be researched enough to sell; further, as long as more research increases the price per copy enough to recoup the time lost from copying in a 6month window, I research more. 2. If it's a BPO purely for building, I estimate the profit per produced item if I'm buying the minerals at fair value. If in a 6 month time scale I don't make up the lost production time value in saved minerals, no more research. 3. If the blueprint will not be in constant use for at least one of the above, and I have research slots left at my POS noone wants to pay me for, then it is a candidate for getting a bit of extra research until it is needed or the slot is needed. Happens more with PE slots than ME slots:).
Since I don't live in 0.0, the above is fine for me. If someone wants to live out of a POS in 0.0, it may benefit them to go further, since minerals are effectively more expensive coming out of a POS refine, and the items are presumably worth more being produced out there (or they wouldn't be doing their production there). So a little efficency may go farther.

If you are spending days of research time trying to remove a small order of waste from a blueprint lets say from ME200 - ME300 it should be clear that the gain is very small for all but the largest prodution runs. I have many blueprints to research and my time is best spent ditching the print after ME50 and researching another print. Without using calculations to justify this your time is often best spent increasing ME to 50 on any outstanding that you have. www.eve-players.com |

I have a simply criterion that I use for most corp bpos, (read non-cap).
If time to perfectME <= 1 week - then I research perfectME Else - then I research to 10.

Take into account the 3-4 week wait to get the lab in the first place.
My rule of thumb is ME at 25, and for high-volume items (ammo and small modules) PE 25 as well. Unless you are very big-scale, PE on a BS BPO is a waste of time, for example. On ammo, PE 30 may be worth it.
Just my 0.02 isk.

There is really no effect from what I've seen researching above PE 20.
