Sure seems to me that it's possible. Here's why,
My cloaked ship was at a safespot for about a minute when in warps 5 ships less than say 15km from me. They immediately fan out in a sweep formation while approaching my location and deploying their drones in an attempt to uncloak my ship which they did.
Now I know of no other way they could have found me without some kind of scan probe as a cloaked ship is still invisible on the scanner. Am I missing something here?

Yes, my ship was a battleship so yes I had to warp in and then cloak but it was done within a few seconds, 10 sec tops.

Unless ccp suddenly made it available with a stealthpatch I think you were just very very unlucky (either with timing or if it's possible but really really really hard)... Otherwise a whole number of people have been very very unlucky when they have tried to find cloaked ships in the past.

If they knew that you were cloaking at a safe they probally had a covops running to do the probe just as you got to your SS, as they landed 15km away that means that they didnt have the accuracy/missed by a tiny bit on the probing time. Theres a counter to everything and cloaking at safes are somewhat the safest thing you can do, but if they really want, they can catch you. You say it took 10 secs, covops with good probing skills can take as little as 12,5 secs afaik, so maybe they started the probe with some long distance probes just as you warped out of your belt?
Anyhow I havent caught anyone cloaking at safe, only time I have gotten a cloaker is when the guy had this habit of warping to the planet his belts were next to at 0 and I luckily bumped into him cloaked.

TBH being found cloaked at a safespot seems so unlikely that I had just assumed I had missed something in a recent patch or something, but going from the responses here, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Well, convoing my aggressors for more possible info seems like the next step.

yeah i would. best way to find out. as others have suggested they may have been probing already or something and just clocked u before u cloaked. probing is a bit weird tbh

You're probably right. The thing is that I don't believe I have ever engaged these pilots before though members of my corp may have in the past. As such they have no reason to believe I even fit a cloak. Just lots of oddites here.

Not suggesting there are any bugs in this game, but the cloaking mechanics could use a look over.
I sent in a bugreport a couple of weeks ago, when I had been targeted while I was cloaked. (20km+ from any object, and not in direction of anything else).
I hope CCP looks at it, but I doubt they will put it on the known issues list, since it seems to be rare glitches.

Keep in mind that what you see on your computer is not alwayse happening at the same time on the server, its completly possible to cloak on your screen a second or 2 before you actually cloak and get someone locking you in that window.
Now in response to the orrigional poster alot of people think cloaking battleship to make them 100% immunte to reprisal is extremely cheap. I've scanned down and saved peoples safespots before and simply chose not to attack them so that i could save it for later when they try and cloak a ship. On one occasion I managed to warp in on top of someone and get a ship that way. Do you use that spot frequently with ships that dont cloak? You may want to rotate safe spots every few times you use them.
The could have timed it right and gotten you in the small window you were uncloaked like someone already said however i think its more likely they know what your SS is and chose to check it.

This was in a cov ops ship, and I warped there cloaked, and sat for a minute or two before a ship suddenly locked me.

Its not currently possible to scan probe cloaked ships. CCP hasnt found a way to allow probing "non stealthy" cloaked ships without breaking recons and covert ops ships.

Do other people (even corpmates) have that safe spot bookmark ? Its possible they had previously probed it down.
Or they have a cov ops there with max scanning skills and rigs that could probe you down very quickly.

You can find cloaked ships. What you can't find is cloaked recon and cov ops ships using a cov ops cloak. Look around the game, you'll figure out how to do it :)

Yes it is possible that my safespot was compromised but I didn't think it was likely since I cloak when I use it. As for other pilots knowing it, I think only one corp mate ever used that location with me.
I'm inclined at this point to think a fast probe before I cloaked is how I was found. 12 sec for a prober with top skills and setup? Is this really correct?

Never sit still at a safe spot. Even if cloaked, move. Anywhere. If someone does catch you, by the time they warp to the position they detected you at, you will have moved away from that spot.

Can't be done yet.
There have been posts and dev blogs that mentioned being able to find cloaked ships, but that it'd be a pain and need special probes.

Uber scan probes, caught you as you landed before you cloaked warp warrior. (aka William Strider) We warped to the signature and we knew you were cloaked. Not that hard to decloak a battleship when you know its at most 10 km ish away.

lol, yes well done. I was wondering when one of you would see this thread.
So what kind of probe times do you get Avenging Beauty?

There is a bug (that may need reporting, i don't know if my corp mate did it) in which a ship can appear cloaked to its owner, the module can be running and you are still visible.
I know this because i warped into a gate where i had a friendly scout and saw that he was sitting there uncloaked. So i told him he was uncloaked and he was like "i am? WTF it totally shows me as being cloaked!!" so he uncloaked and cloaked again and that fixed the problem.
Sucks huh? |

Still takes some luck to catch someone if they land/then cloak. Multiple probers like myself make it easy breazy tho.
Hi although this is a little off topic from OP question, I am not saying your skills are not uber Avenging Beauty but could you tell me exactly how you get 2 x Tech II Gravity rigs on covert ops frigate (obvious choice for scanning ship due to scan time reduction through skills!) or Recon ship for that matter when the calibration cost of a Tech II Gravity rig is 300 per rig! when both of these class ships only have a 400 calibration total amount available on these ships? |
