Mining in belt ... spawn occurs ... you get hit without threat warning (I mean the info that a NPC rat has locked onto you).
Can somebody confirm/reproduce ?

Maybe they use Passive targeting modules?

Yup and sometimes, we don't see the warning saying the ships are within targeting range.

no missile threat when they launch either?
Do Tech 2 NPC's have a stealth tech so you don't know your being locked or hit until your shields are gone & it's too late?

I found that today as well I did not get any warning of lock on until they hit me , luckily they were ont 8 x 12.5k , but I thought they were going to let them have cloking on the npc pirates

No audible or visual indication that you have been locked on whatsoever.
No Threatbox, no "you been locked" chirp.
Just the hostile red box around ships indicate that you have been targeted !

No warning whatsoever and that's NOT a good thing.
Luckily, I had my auto scanner configured for ships & drones, otherwise I would have missed the rats right on top of me....

Yup, that happened to me last night. I was chatting away in corp, happily mining when out of nowhere I got ambushed by a crowd of 5 or so rats. I had no idea they were there until they were right on top of me, and by the time I got my drones launched my ship was already doomed... 
Ah well. At least I didn't get podded. |
