Hello there! I have a dual-boot setup with XP-Pro 32-bit and Vista Ultimate 64-bit (final). I cannot run the EVE client from my XP drive by clicking the EVE.exe, even in Windows XP compartibility mode (clients exits after launch picture). I searched the forums and found only some posts about problems with the EVE installer trying to install DX9. So do I have to download the latest full client to get it running? Or could this harm my vista installation?

<Patch notes> - Known issues
Windows vista is not yet supported although you may be able to run the eve client on it.
So i gues you have to wait till they create support on that. Knowing CCP a little, that might take a while

Edited by: Mei Kred on 28/02/2007 11:24:40 With the little i know about Vista, you can try to disable the UAC (User Account Control). However it's not sure it will work but may worth a try. I say not sure because apparently a lot of games doesn't works actually even if the UAC is disabled (sadly) and because i never saw a 64 bit version of windows working properlly so far.
To do that, use windows key + R, type "msconfig" then go into tools. At the bottom of the list, select disable UAC and click on launch (not ok). Reboot and cross your fingers.
Hope it will help / work eventually.
Edit: like Eliax said about patch notes, it adds another "no it won't work" variable into the equation :/

Edited by: Elgar Lightfoot on 28/02/2007 15:22:11 With any luck CCP won't get it running on Vista. Vista = Windows ME, the biggest mistake Microsoft ever made.
Let the OS flop and die. It's the kindest thing anyone can do for it.

It runs on a modified NT core. So it's a very, very supe'd up Windows 2K, not ME.
95, 98, ME = 9x kernal NT, 2K, XP, Vista = NT kernal
Run EVE on XP 64-bit in Windows XP SP2 (86x) from the compatability menu.
I have it installed right now, and it boots faster, loads everything faster, looks pretier. The only thing I can critique it on, is the fact that some games run slower, and that's only because drivers havn't been properly released for it yet. --- Cache Clearer |

i run eve just fine in vista, but 32-bit vista for me.
alot of the 64-bit drivers are crap, much worse then the early 32-bit drivers. that is likely your problem.

ME is the forgotten OS, even inside MS....When i interned there in 01 and 02, it wasnt mentioned. discussions would go like this:
Q: what OS's should we support this on? A: win95, win98, win2k, XP
after a couple of months i noticed that a certain OS was never mentioned
Vista is not going anywhere, and with direcetx 10, will replace XP fairly switly, as these things go.

Vistas nothing like ME. You may think that vista is bloated and buggy, and perhaps it is,but it has many improvements and architectural differences from XP. Its not going anywhere anytime soon. ME was something completely different. MS wanted to go to the NT line for future operating systems, but people whined and moaned that their 10 year old dos games wouldn't run on it. MS decided that they hadn't managed to push out the old dos type software yet,so put off releasing windows 2k home. Instead, because they wanted to sell you a new os,they came up with vista, which was windows 98 with some extra junk bolted on so they could pretend it was a new os. It was just win98,with a bunch of stuff added that didn't work. While Vista may appear to be XP with extra stuff,it is not. There are signifigant changes under the hood. Some may be good, some may not be. Its the same with any windows release. Moving graphics code into the kernel when they went from nt4.0 to 2k was a bad idea. It made things faster, but less stable. Overall, once the bugs are worked out of vista,it will be pretty decent (as windows goes, which may or may no be a compliment)
In summary:
ME = Win 998 with some crap bolted on to make you think you need a new os so ms can sell you something
Vista = XP with many parts completely rewritten and many low level changes, that don't work right yet. A new operating system, which MS would like you to think you have to have, but in fact which you could put off for quite a while with little loss.

As with any new Microsoft OS... wait for Service Pack 1 before you buy. :)

Vista is Amazing, how dare you insult something that is barely even 2 months old, in time Vista will outshine even mac os X, as well as linux and all previous windows versions, althoug the only downsides are the price and the fact that Ultimate is the only vista version worth purchasing, so save your money if you were intending on getting any of the other vista options
