Hello all, I am entering a fun frigate fight to introduce me to the world of PVP inside my corps, except I am a mining build and badly behind on basic skills for combat.
I am caldari so I have slight bonuses there naturally, my plan was to get a fast kestrel and mount it with 3 shield damaging light missiles and an armour damaging type [forgotten the names of them] then reload the shield types into armour destroying missiles [4x] on the fly whilst trying to keep distance from my friends frigates which use blasters and turrets and the like. It is on saturday, money wont be a problem, though rigs are not allowed.
Suggestions? Can I get a kestrel fast enough to avoid confrontation whilst battering my opponents with missiles? Im hoping that if i can stay away then they are forced to fly at me taking full damage from misisles impacts. Thanks.

Spend the week training for T2 light drones.. Buy a tristan and put a Warrior II in.. you win.

get in your kestral. get those missiles out. fit some damage mods and a afterburner on . and an extender.
beware sensor damps. ewarfair and the like.
take drones out first if the opponat is using imicus. just alpha the drone to hell an back.
a kestral with very good missile skills can pwn most frigates in 3 missile salvos whatever damage type (i suggest taking thurmal but you may want to use kinitic for the damage bonus(really depands on your skills.
im a "usually" an incursus rail pilot for 1v1 frigate fights. and if i come to grips with a roket kestral then its bye bye kestral. however a missile kestral is a ship to be feard. thye just reach out and touch you at long ranges with high damage per hit missiles.
go by your strenghs and have fun. frigate duals are so much more fun than tanking and nos and battleships.

Faster + longer range = win.
Longer range should be certain if he uses blasters and you use standard missiles.
Faster is a bit more of an issue if he can use microwarpdrive and you can't. Assuming you can use the same propulsion mod as he can, fit whatever combination of inertia stabs and nanofibers gives you the fastest speed, the propulsion mod in mid, as many standard launchers as your pg allows for (don't worry if you can't fill all 4 high slots, in artificial combat situations like this, it doesn't matter how fast you kill him, as long as you win). Last two mids should only matter if something goes wrong, maybe kin/therm hardeners, or what the hell, maybe target painters.
Don't ever think about using that setup for real pvp though.

Edited by: Darknar on 28/02/2007 11:42:37 problem with caladri is they cant dictate range very well. but thinking about it. they do have the longest ranged wepons in the game. rails and missiles.
if your up against gallente. take missiles and dont bother about speed.
if he gets in close for blasters then you have already hit him a fair few times for him to get close
if he uses rails then you are in your own racial range of missiles.
if he is amarr or minmatar then you should not have to much trouble. unless they really seriosly out skill point you.
oh and your never going to win against a higher skill pointed caldari kestral pilot unless he is using rokets and you both have the same speed.
but then again. roket kestrals usually have a microwarp drive fitted.
but one good thing about pvp in frigates. you never know whats going to happen.
i once saw a imicus take on a rifter. long fight being T1 nonamedmodules only. but damn funny to see the rifter go pop to a astrometrics frigate.
hell. if you really wanted to. just show up in a roket condor. or a bantam. having a laugh is all its about.

you do often need some serious damage to take out certain ships tanking like hell. I did a condor with mwd and 2 standard launchers against a rifter once (for fun) and he could never catch me unless I let him (or if I had screwed up at some point). However I didn't do enough damage to hurt him...
