I hate to make a comparison to WOW, but the introduction of arenas was a good move. Maybe EVE could adopt something similar.
CCP could setup pvp complexes that have ship size restrictions all over EVE, not just in empire either. You could enter the arena and register for upcoming matches. Thatd be sweet. Introduce several game types, free for all, team matches, endurance matches, etc.
I feel that too many fights in EVE are one sided. There are no great epic battles, just mostly gate camps and blobs. The Devs agree Itd be a great addition to the game to introduce and option for some quick and easy pvp. No podding in the arenas either
They could also introduce a gambling system where you could bet on matches. And name one of the big arenas Solaris 7

Edited by: Vyyrus on 28/02/2007 13:04:11 I agree. Low sec space is the only territory for pvp. There needs to be sections in empire space layed out specifically for pvp. Seems like the only way to get some pvp action in the game is to join a corp and venture to low sec. At least this way people can see what your made of without the danger of being podded and losing big $$$ in implants.

That was a high sec PVP/gadiator corp that arranged games. Each contestant droped a book mark in a can. each opened the others can so that they were flaged and the fighting comenced.

Good idea, but as mentioned above, it should be player arranged and controlled. Current mechanics allow for such fights, but it is also open for griefing.

I've been offline for a while but is the gang combat still allowed in highsec? I remember that players used to gang so they could kick the brown stuff out of each other without Concord intervention.

I believe the current system only allows for pvp within the same Corp in empire. If you shoot at someone in your gang that is not a part of your corp, CONCORD will spank you. I know this for a fact as it happened to me first hand

PVP in this game for me its just a dream.
I play this game about 2 years from now and i never had a pvp scheduled (only the usual piracy or accasional fights)
Of course im a empire trader.
However, once in a while it will be fun do some real pvp instead of lvl 4 missions.
So i think this PVP Arenas idea is great and i vote on that to.

There is allready a PVP arena its called "0.0" space, buy a ship and fly a few jumps. Instanced PVP arenas suck, just take wow for example the pvp in that game sucks hard. "Death Before Dishonor" |

Enter 0.0?
seriously, for a player who wants PVP to practice and hone some tactics, being continuously ganked by a gang of players in faster, more powerful ships isn't going to teach them much except to avoid 0.0 at all costs
Been there twice in an alt and lost 2 ships and pods to gangs of gankers, both times it was at least 3 onto 1. My ship disappeared so fast, I barely got to fire a shot back.
I can understand those who want a 1 on 1 encounter with someone equal just to practice. However, creating WOW type arenas isn't the answer. Until there's a solution, use the can theft system, steal from each others cans and then blast away.

It might feel harsh, but the reality of PvP in Eve and to be honest warfare in general since time began is harsh.
"Practising" 1v1 isn't going to help anyone once they get out into low sec or 0.0 as having a 1v1 fight is quite rare.
As in the real world to win a battle or war you must try and fight on the most favourable terms to yourself, that means picking the time, place and outnumbering your opponent to give yourself a better chance of winning.
There are plenty of corps out there that will take people in and teach them gang PvP and prepare them for a life in low sec or 0.0. Arrranging 1v1's with people is no lesson at all.

You have some very valid points there. Eve does very well at simulating what space warfare would really be like.
But the problem is EVE is a game. You play for fun, you play it by choice.
EVE is becoming more and more work than play. And when ceases being fun altogether, people will quit. More and people will stop playing, and then there will be no more EVE.
Remember, everyone has different play styles in EVE. A good majority of us can only play for a few hours a week. It would be really nice to have a "fun" option for us casual gamers to get into pvp.

We are Eve, resistance is futile
I know the feeling, I have been off the internet for 6 months and started to get withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes, I am playing and get a few days when I wonder why I am playing it and don't log in for a few days but I always seem to come back.

I agree.
Encourage PVP.
Allow combat requests where pilots request a challenger for 1vs1, 2vs2 etc.
Set the rules Ship Tech Level: Ship Type: etc.
good potential.

i agree for a PvP arena on the live server.
it would be just like the test server, except everyting is free. the only way to get there is to "pod" yourself there, once there and in the station, you will reset your clone back out to get out. there are no gates to get in and out, just pod yourself in and out, so there is no way to get mods or ships out.
fighting zones: Frigates, cruisers, BS, BS&carriers, carriers, FFA1, FF2, FFA3......and so on and so on whatever.
i just want to be able to go to an area where i can PvP for free, possibly even get rewards for kills or something, stats even for kills, losses. an eve online killboard for the PvP arena, tournaments.

I agree with you in everything except the "for free" mention. If you wanna get rewards at the arenas you have to put something on the line, i mean your ship and your fit. Nothing is for free.

For the arena type battles it should be player option / agreement as to allow podding. I can agree with no p/k's those damn uninsurable imps are expensive. lol. as for destruction of ones ship thats another story as they can be insured.

The ELIMINATION of non-consensual PvP in highsec would be idiotic. But the ADDITION of consensual PvP support in highsec would be a welcome feature.
I can see absolutely no drawback whatsoever in adding "arena" support, as long as all other options remain open (and an arena kill does NOT give kill rights). You still lose your ship and modules, winner collects undestroyed mods, there is both risk and reward, why the anti-arena sentiment anyway ? _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

There are alot of pluses with the arena concept. It can allow friendly competition between 2 or more people, Gambling can be introduced, and Players can also learn the fine art of tanking without the omgimfd thought going thru the thought processes lol. Some of the rules for the arenas could b : No pod killing, the winner get the loot plus a portion of the bets or it could be a "prize" of some sorts. There can also be a place for spectators to view as well. The possibilities can be endless.

What i dont get is why people are so scared of lowsec. Gatecamps are not that common due to gateguns (atleast where i am). I entered lowsec in a t1 rifter, 1,5 mil SP and could either do my stuff, or pirate. Its not hard ppl! A Rifter with mwd, trackingdisruptor and scram will take down cruisers ffs (i did) Just keep away from caldari

Like I said, I only have 2-3 hours a week to play EVE, and itd be nice to be able to log in and get into a fight within 10 minutes that isnt one-sided. Blobs and ganks are such a pain and quite frankly ruining my EVE experience as of late.
