Edited by: Artronus on 28/02/2007 13:04:28 Hi folks!
Well let me tell you level 3 missions came WAY too fast. I was caught unprepared when I saw a L3 agent available to me. That's fine as I am going to keep humming on my L2's and learn the game a bit more.
My next ship will of course be a Battleship. I am currently flying the Brutix and have traveled in the following progression:
-Velator -Tristan -Velator (har-har) -Catalyst -Thorax -Brutix
I am of course Gallente. My question is which ship would be a good choice for me as a battleship? Let's assume that ISK is not an issue.
I like the Dominix for it's large drone space but sadly have not been able to get my drone skills up to par just yet. That is next on my skill learn-o-thon. Downside, looks like a big flying lump... similiar to the Brutix I guess but without the "look at me I'm a tomato worm" charm.
I like the the looks and power of the Megathron and my gunnery skills are pretty maxxed out as far as surgical strike, etc. are concerned. I only need to learn some large turret skills. Downside is such a small drone bay.
Hyperion would be perfect but I don't like jumping into high-end ships right off. I like to ease my way up the ladder a bit.
I would most likely fit rails, some hardeners, an X5 webber, named AB and maybe some damage control. I can't really know until I fly it for the first time of course.
Has anyone flown all three? Or even flown "against" all three? LOL
I am primarily a mission runner, a T2 miner and a "if I have to I will PVP" type player. Once I get more comfy with the game I will most likely move to lower sec zones but for now I need to learn.
Thanks for reading! Artronus

well level 3 missions should be easily mastered by the JayLenoMobile, it should plow right through them
but if you skills are not yet developed then you can sure go for battleships (btw kudos to sticking to one race, purity 4tw :P)
however i dislike the flying turd it is, by far the easiest to fly gallente npc bs, get scoutdrone ops to 5, drone interfacing to lvl 4 and youll be more than able to master level 3 missions

Beautiful information, thank you!
I was thinking that the Myrmidon might be an appropriate next step but my friend shot that down. (Need to re-evaluate that friendship it seems;) lol
I will do some comparisons between the Dominix and the Myrmidon to check my "bang for buck."
Thanks again, this is very helpful!

keep flying and trining up skills relivant to the brutix.
lv 4 battlecruiser and lv 4 medium hybrid turrets should do the trick for damage dealing and tanking in any lv 3 mission.
personaly. battleships to me are rubbish. but its all how you feel you should fight.
get yourself a dominix and try it out for a bit. its worth investing in 1 BS but if you dont like it. keep it in your hanger for that time when your doing lv 4 missions and you actually got the skills to fly that particular ship properly.
keep flying the brutix/cruiser untill you maxed out (Lv4 maxed) the skills for them and move onto the battleships thats if you like them at all.
but its always a good idea to try the ship out to see how you like it. domi is good for this becuse 1. its cheap 2. its got a huge drone bay for multiple drones types 3. can still be used as a turret ship 4. tanks like awsomeness.
Istabs FTW I fight true gallente style. with blasters microwarp drives and drones all at the same time. Do or die is |

Considering you went from Thorax to Brutix, you probably enjoy a blasterboat setup. The next real blasterboat is the Megathron, so you might want to use the Domi as a stepping stone to get to that.

Edited by: Endo Dy on 28/02/2007 15:03:47 Assuming you have skilled a lot of gunnery in order to make the Brutix a bit spicey, the most logical way for a mission vessel would be the Megathron i.m.o. . Don't be fooled about the drone bay of the Mega btw ; 125 m3 is more than enough for 5 small and medium drones, preferably Tech II ofcourse. Who needs large drones with some 350mm/425mm's in the high slots. Btw: if the purpose of the BS is to do Level 3 missions; stop right here . Save the ISK's of buying and insuring a BS. Instead skill further and buy some nice fitting for that lovely Brutix

I personally fly a Myrmidon for lvl4s, and I don't even use an uber passive shield tanked one.
I used an Ishkur for lvl3s and below. Tried a Vexor a couple times and it worked fine for lvl3s.

blasterboats are very skill intensive if you want to fly them well.

What setup on the Vexor? I find myself generally getting rocked if I try ratting in my Vexor. I can generally tank 1 BS... but much more damage than that and I'm hosed.

Hmm it's been a while, don't remember the exact setup... but I just had to keep my distance and transversal up, snipe the frigs with small rails and send drones after the bigger ships. A couple NPC specific hardeners, 800/1600mm plate, medium rep. Even the Mordus one wasn't that hard. Just don't let yourself get webbed.
It was actually easier to do in the Ishkur most of the time. I didn't use the Vexor that much.

I'd say stay in the Brutix until your drone skills are up enough to fly the Domi. The Meg is a good fleet ship, but I've found the Domi to be more useful for everything else. Then again I've got twice as many sp in drones as I do in gunnery, so I may be biased. :)

Stay away from domi if your drone skills suck. Domi rocks with good drone skills, but without them its sub par.

Edited by: Endo Dy on 01/03/2007 11:26:34 For missions i prefer the Megathron with rails over the Dominix anytime. Dominix with good drone skills (sentry's ftw) can do lvl4's fast, yet i doubt if you beat me to it in a Megathron with magstabs and 425mm's
And don't use a blastersetup in lvl4 missions you go crazy flying everywhere to get in range -------------- - Enrave Corporation - Feel it - Join it - |
