So there is a low sec system near me that is pretty heavily hunted by player rats. I wandered in couple times in a ship I was about to sell and saved myself the trouble by collecting the insurance and having a little fun in the process. Usually you get tracked down and tackled by a frig then something bigger comes along and pummels you with drones. Let me be clear, I am not whining, I went in there knowing full well I would be hunted and it was the most exciting minutes ever spent in the game.
So now I would like to take it up a level and give the pirates a challenge. I'm thinking I would need to bring a friend or two to make it a fair fight. If I formed a gang and one of the gang is attacked can we all retaliate? I now I need to learn more about that (gangs). My probably ill-conceived plan is this. Have a few of us go into the system and do a little NPC ratting in different belts. As soon as one of us is engaged by a pirate the others warp in and its game on.
What am I missing? Will the Pirates just warp out / logoffski as soon as they see I'm not alone or would they be up for the challenge? Should we equip scramblers on our own ship to prent them from fleeing?

That's a good way to catch belt pirates, yeah. Have a 'ratter' who's actually tanked up to the eyeballs and full of scrams, webs and nos. As soon as the pirate engages, the bait ship tackles him and the rest warp in and gank him. You don't have to worry about flagging or sec status because the pirate will be flagged from attacking the bait.

yes, put on 20km disruptors. If the pirates attack anyone within the last 15 minutes, you can kill them without a sec hit.
It depends on the pirate tbh. They wont log because they have an aggression timer, so it will take 15 minutes before they disappear so they are easily probed. They probably wont have warp core stabs.
A good pirate, if he cannot win, will try to get away to fight another day. A younger pirate will probably jsut be looking for a fight and stick around.
Make sure you do a lot of research on your ships, and look for good setups. Having voice comms increases your chances of success.
Most of all, the more experience you have in pvp combat, the better you will do. The more times you have done this, the better you will be able to work through the hand jittering adrenaline rush. For many, the adrenaline rush leaves you in a shaking paralysis, so you may screw up. Just remember to launch your drones, make sure you have your warp scram on him, and make sure he doesnt get out of range.
Hope that helps.

Unless the friends are all in your Corp, they will take a security hit for attacking anyone who hasnt attacked them first, in Empire and in LowSec. Right?

Anybody can pewpew someone flying the GCC (Criminal) flag, or someone under -5.0.
Samirol underestimates the rest of us though, I know that today, in this age of probes, the more intelligent of us are more careful. If I'm being chased, I'm never not warping/aligning, and I'm constantly dropping new safespots and deleting old ones.
As far as the challenge, depends on the pirate. If I saw the odds turn against me you'd likely see nothing but my exhaust as I haul ass out of there. No logoffski though. -------------------------------------------------

Say you get shot by a pirate and you have no global countdown. Does that spark an aggression timer and do you not disappear at that point if you log off (If you do not return fire)? That's been bugging me whenever I hide from pirates and I want to get off the computer. What I say here... does not reflect on my corp or alliance. |

Yes it does.If you engage a hostile activity/been engaged in a hostile activity by another ship you will have a 15 minute timer before your ship disappears from space. Yeah I am a pirate. What are you gonna do about it? |

well if "SHYT" saw you I can already imagine where you are....
If you fight us then we will probably stay and fight depends on the ships you have...or we might break contact. Piracy today is about knowing when to stay or go. However I will give you some advice to help you out..don't put all your friends in a diff belt though. You all might get jumped at the same time...then where is you backup?? Oh yea getting pwned Pirates do not always hunt alone but because of that it does not mean that they won't attack seperate ships alone....write that down!!!

Try to do this: Many pirates love to use intys. (as far as I have seen) Get a BS, stab it up. Yes people i said it. stabs.. Nothing more then 3. High slots = smart bombs. When they come in to tackle ya, and are in range. Activate those smart bombs. The pirate (suprise pvper) will not understand what's going on b4 he pops! Sometimes, it can go wrong, but that's why you have stabs

and any inty who thinks it can take down a bship alone needs to rethink its plan. also.. intys that get within smartbomb range.. well they deserve to be killed.

I think he means a tackler for when the assault frigates and HACs come in behind.
And I have to get within smartbomb range in my ceptor if I want to do any damage. Course ceptors aren't great damage dealers (at least the Amarr ones aren't) so generally I don't fly them anymore anyway. ---------

I stopped reading after seeing the words "To Make It Fair", "We" (a group) and "The Pirate" (one person).
if you meant pirateS then great, if you meant gank someone then remove the word "fair" , a lot are using that word recently when referring to piracy combat, and seem to think it only applies when the pirates attack them.

What I meaat is that usually it is not just one pirate that attacks. Often it is a tackler with backup. So when I said "fair" I really meant >1 vs >1 instead of 1 (me) vs >1.

Edited by: Christopher Dalran on 02/03/2007 20:20:51 You will be able to trick them maybee once with a large tanked ship with all webs/scrams/ and nos. You need to get your attack group in the next system over because if they see more than 1 or 2 people they are going to dock or logout and wait. After you get them once tho they are going to be wise about anyone conected to you, pirates arent after fights they are after free loot.
It is very difficult to get someone back that does not have a physical location they need to protect (like a POS) that you know cant move or logout.

There is nothing fair about it, but that's the risk Pirates take. Ganking Pirates like this has been around since forever. This is how Navy's took out Pirates in the Carribean in the 1600's.
I don't know if you were whining, but ganking Pirates in this manner is totally part of the game and Pirates should expect it.
