I am roughly at the point where I will begin weapons specialization and I don't wnat to make a serious mistake in allocating skill time. So I've been wondering about Projectile turrets vs Hybrid turrets. Are there any firm conclusions about which turret is superior and under what conditions? For example:
Blasters vs Autocannons (pve or pvp)?
Rails vs Artillery (pve or pvp)?
I've noticed for eg. that projectile ammo allows variation of damage type, while hybrid ammo all does the same damage type.
Any firm conclusions on these issues?

Simple really. Do you fly Minmatar ships or Gallente?

It does depend mostly on which race's ships you wish to fly. Blasters are harder to use than ACs due to their very low optimal and low falloff. ACs are easier to fit and have better range and no cap use, but not quite the same theoretical max damage.
Artillery are mostly about the alpha strike, rails have slightly better DPS.

More importantly, You get bonuses to same race weapons from the ship. A megathron gives you 5% bonus to damage, and 7.5% bonus to tracking speed of large hybrids, so with gallente BS level 5, you would be crazy not to fit hybrids.

Ok thx everyone. On the basis of replies so far, I tentatively conclude that there are no very significant differences between the platforms per se, and that the decision is really governed by the recail bonuses of the ship to be fitted.
Right? Anyone disagree??

Yes. Exactly.
There are a few very limited exceptions, such as the practice of fitting Projectile weapons onto Amarr ships, but given you didn't mention Amarr, this shouldn't be an issue. I'm just showing off.

Yeah there are some exceptions. Some ships dont have a racial specific bonus, or have drone bonuses instead, so it doesnt matter which guns you fit. I think a lot of people fit lasers to the ishtar, cant remember exactly why.
