I'm specced in T2 guns but I fly Gallente so the time it would take to get drones up to usefull for a Mym is about equal to that to train up for AF. So the question is, for ratting in low sec / 0.0 + having a chance to fend off those that will inevitably attack me which is better?

Personally I'd go with the AF. You'd have alot more mobility, which is essential in low sec. ------------------- My opinions (ie, all of my posting here) are not my corporations. Nor should it be taken as such.

Well, it depends on how much money you're willing to risk, too, when ratting in low-sec/0.0. I like the AF myself. The Myrmidon is bigger and badder, perhaps, but if you're interested in ratting, the AF can bounce around systems, being smaller and faster, and if you do lose it, it's not a big loss to your wallet. Both ships can take out low-sec rats with ease, although for 0.0, the AF will take longer to take down larger stuff. Also, don't forget about the Brutix; since you're spec-ed for T2 guns, that's an option, too. But my recommendation would be to train up for the Ishkur and drones.
Have fun!

I'd go for the AF. The BC will make ratting go faster though. But I just like AF's...

AFs are definately better in hostile space, much harder to catch 'em.

I'd take the Myrm over an Ishkur/Enyo any day, and I'm specced to fly both.
Btw, you'll really appreciate the extra cargo space of the BC when ratting in nosec.
TBH ratting in a Taranis is faster and more fun than a Gallente AF, but still, Myrmidon ftw.

^^ Nobody ever agrees, I love the EVE forums. ^_^
I'd go with the AF, personally. The BC may go faster, sure, but the AF is harder to kill, works fine, is cheaper, and you can fit two in a hauler np to move them to your 0.0 home.
I'd go with an Enyo over an Ishkur aswell. Yes, the Ishkur is the better ship. More DPS, fits a NOS, and has meds for a Web & Scram. But if someone warps in you don't have to worry about recalling your drones with an Enyo. Just warp out. And you don't have to worry about agroign things so your drones don't get killed. Its just easyer, and an Enyo costs less.

Doesn't a Taranis have lower DPS that an Enyo? I wouldn't know, because I've never flown a Taranis, but my Enyo takes several minutes to kill a 1.8 mil BS spawn and that's with Neutrons and a rocket launcher.

Please read ship bonuses before you post.
Taranis has:
Quote: Gallente Frigate Skill Bonus: 10% Small Hybrid Turret damage per level
Interceptor Skill Bonus: 5% reduced Signature Radius and 7.5% Small Hybrid Turret tracking speed Per Interceptor Skill Level
Meaning it gets +50% hybrid damage at interceptors 1.
Enyo has half that bonus, and half the dronebay.

It really depends on situation... if ur alliacne controls some space with reasonable security then a bc is a better pick if you are bouncing around on the fringes in constant danger then an af makes more sense

If you want to hunt bigger sized rats(especially BS or BC) and get some powerful PvP ability, would go with Myrmidon. But you want to hunt just cruisers or frigs and get survivability, would go with Ishkur/Enyo. Make your choice wisely

Dont forget an Ishkur is a 20+ mil, non-insurable frigate. So if you lose it you lose at least 19 mil. Yeah I am a pirate. What are you gonna do about it? |

True, Ishkur is expensive frigate and non perfectly insurable one however you will get better chance to survive, it is definitely true (but probably will get worse chance to kill someone )

BC setups designed to kill rats don't generally have any pvp oriented gear on them. if you go for a nos setup on your myrmidon, you might survive a fight against a ship your size or smaller that's not shooting any explosive at you.
Assault frigates, particularly the Ishkur, can be setup to pvp in, and you won't have to worry about most rats, because they can't track fast enough to hit you.
That being said, you could always fly the Brutix, which doesn't necessarily require good drone skills. They are useful, but not necessary.
My ratting brutix, for Serpentis:
5x Modal Ion w antimatter (T2 fits with AWU 3) 2x Best named medium NOS
named MWD web 2x f-b10 cap rechargers
mar2 2x thermal hardener t2 1x kinetic hardener t2 beta cap relay
This setup will tank nearly everything with BC4 (triple lord admiral spawns are rough), kills fairly quickly, and is completely cap sustainable.

Edited by: Kha0s on 03/03/2007 12:44:31 Sorry, but I have to post this video in any thread relating to battlecruisers. Watch it and be amazed. Now, a lot of this may come down to fitting and the pilot's skill, but seriously, just look at him go, nothing even comes close to stopping him. Now...somebody show me an assault frig do that.

i've done alot of ratting in both myrmidons and enyos and ishkurs. Myrmidon is far and away the best for mostly friendly 0.0, it takes down the big stuff fast and the small stuff fast, faster than my enyo with t2 neuts with void and 2 magstab II's.
for lowsec i would take an AF. the spawns are cruiser and BC sized, enyos and ishkurs rip through those, get to them faster, and if a hostile comes to kill you, you can get away much faster.
0.0 with warning of hostiles in the area = myrm anywhere else = enyo.. or ishkur with t2 med drones and assault frigs 4/5

Well, being gallente aint cool since you need to get both blasters and drones up...drones can take 3 months before you're fairly good with em...at least heavies.
Go with AF's until you have the ISK and skills to make bigger ships worthwhile. The enyo is cool looking and powerful, rock it out while you get t2 drones. The ishkur is fun and prolly the most powerful frig you can fly.
The myrmidon is re****ulously fun to fly, but I'd reckomend only when you get t2 heavies.
Eventully, work towards BC's, because gallente has the best (imho at least) command ships out there. The eos is a god amongst ants, and something Im training for eventually. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever
